Serious Advice Only (22x8.5) Rims

Okay so I'm new to the site, but have a little knowledge of the topic. I have a couple of questions about rims and fitments. I have a 1998 Grand Prix Se, 3.8L v6, gold colored, I recently purchased a set of new rims from a friend that he had on his 2010 Chrysler 300. The size of the rims are 22x8.5, and the brand is "2 crave" No. 14 alloy black machined finish. Now before anyone starts to talk down on the size, I understand the cons of them but its my car and I wanna do what I wanna do. I'm asking for you guys advice on how to achieve the best fitment far as tire size and how to have the best quality of ride. Suggestions such as upgrades to my brakes, rotors, any fender rolling, new structs or shocks, etc. etc. Give me all that has the potential of being affected and how I can go about fixing it in order to increase my chances for a better ride.

Now I'm not too sure on what the offset size of the rims are, but I was looking up the offset size for the Chrysler 300's and its said to be a 5x115 which is the same as our Grand Prix's. So I'm assuming the rims will be a perfect fit. Please provide some serious feedback whoever can. Especially the well educated ones I notice on here that knows there ****, "Bio", for example.

Thanks

The car was not designed for a wheel bigger than 19in. and with the width and height of that wheel you might have both rubbing and poke still. But if you're deadset on the wagon wheel look...

External transmission cooler, GXP or Vette brakes, Fender rolling, Air ride/struts, In fact a whole do-over of the suspension would be wise..

Do NOT cheap out, You will regret it.

Yeah, without knowing the offset of the rims I couldn't even comment on if these would fit or not. But as for tire size you'll want to go with something that will be less than maybe 27" tall, any larger and you will start worrying about rubbing issues.

As far as upgrades are concerned, you'll want a Trans cooler, GXP or Vette Brakes, you will probably want to upgrade to MOOG balljoints if they are old at all, same with Tie Rods. Struts and Springs would be nice if they are blown but since this is unsprung weight they don't really factor in here unless you need to raise the car for clearance.

In the rear I'd reccomend GMPP Trailing arms, while I would expect the wheel bearings to have a very short lifespan as well

it took a simple google search to find your specs. they have a +38mm offset, which is 100% ideal for the width you have. you should have zero issues with that area.

the problem area you're going to be in is the diameter of the wheel/tire combo. you're going to have to run some serious rubberbands to keep the stock overall diameter. the fenders on the 300C are a little more generous to bigger wheels. im not saying you won't be able to do this, but you are going to spend a lot of money on tires and you might have to run spring blockers or a slight lift in order to make it work. if you like them then by all means shoot for the moon and slap them on.

the wheels actually look pretty nice, too. if you can fit them without rubbing all over the place then i would say go for it. they'll look good once you get them on.

and for these guys above you recommending transmission and brake parts, whatever. if youre not gonna drive the car hard (sudden acceleration and stops) then you wont have to worry about that stuff.

I'd look into rebuilding your suspension with good parts since you'll have a bunch for weight in those things. And at least do the 12" brake upgrade with good pads on all four corners. As for tires there are some online calculators that will tell you what tire size to get to be at the stock diameter, they will be thin and expensive. Also you might want to get spring blocks to raise the car some if you have running issues.

Gotta say it though...hate overly big wheels lol

And there 8" wide so offset is not going to be a problem.
If you had a 04+ they would fit without any problems. They have more room.

I would say they with fit witht he fenders rolled, but with any weight in the back or sharp turns. Its going to rub..

Yea I understand the thinness of the tires and the cost of them as well. I just don't plan on having the car too much longer because I want to sell it, maybe 1 more year. But in the mean time I wanna increase the value of the car as much as I can, to get the best offer. The only reason I want these size rims is because I got them for a superb deal for about half of what they would cost. Far as thickness of tires do you think 35's will fit compared to 30's?? I know I have to keep the original tire diameter in mind, but I'm not sure. Also the rim's width is 8.5, which would mean i need tires that are 215mm in width right?

"Sandman"... Yea I know what you mean by overly big wheels, but I feel you say that only because "you have to make them fit", by doing more work. And thats fine because were all doing more work than necessary to our cars. Instead of throwing some 18's or 20's on, which is a given fit no matter what, can be left for other people. The big rims I'm going for is more for show and looks, so when I sell it "hopefully" some guy likes big rims just as I do. But I also don't want to do harm to my ride in the meantime, which is why I'm asking for you guys help on how to increase my chances of more work down the road.

Personally i would take those rims, flip em on craigslist and get yourself some 18's that properly fit on the car with out spending gobs of mlney to MAKE these work. Youll get more buyers attention and prob make money off the deal!

Suspension upgrades are going to be needed to get them to mount and clear, that is understood by us all and obviously by yourself. What you may not know is that the 4t-60 & 4t-65 4-spd auto tranny's that GM cursed these cars with will be the weak link. Service the trans and hope like hell you don't break something turning those monsters.

hahaha you guys really hate big rims, but I respect all of your input. I suppose you guys have your reasons with the excessive amount I would have to get done to have these big boys riding somewhat smoothly. It just sucks because I really like this style of rim, but even the 18's or 20's would cost way more than what i bought these for. My friend actually posted these rims on Craigslist and got nothing for them. I'm so confused on what to do!!

I don't really like anything over 18s on these cars, 20s work on something like a classic Impala where the cars are huge. Unless I pick up a locals 18s I'm probably downsizing to a 17, with a lower offset for these cars. Its just different tastes wheel wise ya know.

22's are not going to increase the value of your car. Its going to make it HARDER to sell.

Well main concern I have is the tranny or you willing to service it if something goes wrong aka would you have the $. Our trannies are already week as hell from the get go.

Those wheels won't increase the value of the car so much as they'll make the car look like a hooptie.

I see what all you guys are saying and it seems to trickle down to the size of a 22inch rim on these kinds of cars isn't a good idea. I understand its an above average size rim, but the rims aren't chrome, and aren't even all that heavy. There a five spoke alloy rim. My transmission is in pretty good shape, I recently got my engine rebuilt spending about $1200 about parts here and there. I may need to invest in one of those Trans coolers, just to be on the safe side. But other then the suspension upgrade, brakes, and rotors I think I would be okay. My car has 131,000 miles and she purrs...haha. With all this investment why wouldn't i be able to sell her for much more then what I bought her for. Ima put some pics of the rims and my car, then tell me what yall think.
