• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Parts away....

Ok, was it worth their time and trouble and if so, how much?

Yes, yes, and if more are done, it wont cost what I paid, it will be more.

I had a group buy set up as a one time deal many months back, people poked fun, and bashed the idea, so pretty much I said never mind on asking if anyone else was interested. I got mine done, cheaper as a first one off so I consider it a very good deal.

The goods arrived today.

Wow...holding them in my hands for the very first time is just freaking awesome.:D

Videos being uploaded as I type this.

The first ever Carbon Fiber Steering Wheel:
The first ever completed and real carbon fiber Grand Prix steering wheel.:th_crazy:

Really good to see your efforts coming to fruition. Looks great!! Congrats! Mine won't be finished for a bit due to color choice and other priorities, but won't take long once I tell them to finish it (not a 97-03 steering wheel :th_thumbsup-wink:). Is that one my old one by chance? Might have one or two more of that style I won't be using if you need them eventually.

Gotta love carbon fiber. I'd have a nearly 100% CF car if I could. One of the few other GPers as passionate about the stuff as me. Nice job Farns!

There are also some good companies for this in Wichita, Boulder, El Cajon, Wiesbaden(Germany), East Haven, Fullerton, and you already know of at least one from Singapore. Robsin Design/Robsin Leather does quality work as well if that isn't who you went with.

Keep up the good work. Sorry I couldn't make it to Branson to share parts/ideas.

So what's it going to cost me to have that done?

On a side note, do you ever have the time to get those hood mounting plates drilled out?

Yup, thats the steering wheel I bought off you/donated the funds to Chris for the event at Branson Last year. Turned out great huh? I wont be needing any more, I have mine, this one, thats enough for me. I do have 3 others of this same style still in their stock form, I could use as cores for the next guy if needed.

For sure there are some great company's here in Wichita, many of them too busy for the little guy though. Almost all their work is for the aircraft plants here in town. These guys is where I get my already worked carbon fiber from. They throw so much out in the trash daily its unreal. I don't want to warm out my welcome getting free hand outs, so I only go visit them once a year for their scrap...or should I say trash.

There is always next year at Branson, we missed you this year for sure. By next year, I should have my carbon fiber dash done, and installed. So everything should look different by next year for sure.

So what's it going to cost me to have that done?

On a side note, do you ever have the time to get those hood mounting plates drilled out?

This was a one time deal to test the waters and get it done cheaper than their regular production prices. No one wanted it but me, so went on with out anyone else.

But if your interested, this would cost you the following:

Steering wheel = $660.00
Gear Shift Knob = $320.00
Shipping to them = $65.00 to $70.00 (uninsured)

They require a 50% deposit down, and remaining balance once completed. (they will show you (email you) completed pictures)

Return shipping insured is $100.00.

Grand total NOW would run anyone else roughly $1,150.00 for these two items. I love carbon fiber, but not that much to drop those kinds of funds on these parts. Reason for the group buy. My one off price was no where near these prices. Much-much, waaaaaay the hell less. I spent more in shipping to them and back then I did for the actual parts to be done up. I spent $166.79 in shipping total to give you an idea. Doubtful I could ever get these done again this cheap as one offs.

Hood mounting plates. Its difficult to get a neutral meeting time with the guy I gave the hood to that these will be coming off of. He works odd hours and they change on a daily basis. I will see him this weekend, so I will set something up with him this weekend and get you all squared away. Thanks for reminding me, and hanging with me. I'm writing my self a note now...

03GPScottyd....hood mounting plates for gas struts - remove & get mailed - hes waiting!

Got it!:D

Those look sweet, I wouldn't pay $660 + $200shipping though for a steering wheel, congrats again on your continued success in making a carbon fiber interior

Wow, if I hit the lottery or one of my stocks pays out a huge dividend I'll call you for their mailing address. I'd rather put that kind of money in a top swap or start the turbo fund...but they do look sweet.

Maybe I'll see them in Branson next year if there are no more hurricanes ripping through Louisiana at the time.

Thanks for the comments.

Yes they came out awesome, I got them installed last Friday, in time for a car show in Saturday, where I won the 1990-1999 category. Pretty big show, I think the final number of cars was around 339.

Here is some installed pictures:

Ever see what a Porsche steering wheel in carbon fiber goes for? Or a Mercedes or Audi? They cost more than both my first cars combined. :th_nervous:

I figured fake, hydro graphic dipped carbon fiber steering wheels run close to $500.00 each.

These real carbon fiber ones for $660.00 down from the original quoted $800.00 not bad of a difference. Pictures don't do them justice, something you will just have to see for your self. Like you said Scotty, maybe Branson next year. By then, the rest of my interior and under hood parts will be done in carbon fiber too.

Actually, this year at Branson, I saw a quite a few cars there from Louisiana. I was talking with this really cool old man, and he said they left town a week before, and they said they don't plan on going back till a week after. I asked if he was nervous if he would have a home to go back to, he said no, his sister stayed behind and is giving them updates. Kinda like living here and dodging tornado's. But we don't have much of a notice when they come. Only a few minutes/hour tops.
