99 gtp...

Re: new guy 99 GTP total transformation

yea, steel cables through the rear struts to the rear "frame rail" to eliminate weight transfer and keep more weight on the front tires, I gained 3 tenths doing the cables and weight reduction, (ie-passenger seat, gutting the trunk), whereas I only gained .150 going from street tires to the drag radials.

google "grand prix cable mod"

Re: new guy 99 GTP total transformation

Couple new developments with the gtp. Getting ready for a drag event at the end of the season. Going to gut the car run a 3.2 pulley and race gas, cables and these should help too

. Got these too.

Couple pieces of hardware and some paint and they will be ready to rock. Going to regear the trans to 3.29 and install the fbody setup over the weekend. Just finished the sprocket set for the single chain 3.29s today but I didnt snap any pics

Re: new guy 99 GTP total transformation

Got the 3.29 gears, 60# injectors, fbody brakes and a 3 clutch 4th gear setup finished tonight. 3.29's don't feel a whole lot different than stock, my tune is way off with the 60s and then the trans side cover started pissing oil out where the rubber seal sits on the channel plate around the hole for the axle. But my custom 4th clutch stack up seems to work fine and the brakes are awesome so.....back to work tomo night...... after work. Got all kinds of pics to post later

Re: new guy 99 GTP total transformation

The rest of the pics from the brake upgrade, 3.29 swap and 60# injector swap. Plus a couple quick cell phone vids before I take it off of the alky for the winter. on the 3.1" w/20* still. Left the timing conservative on the E85 setup while I was learning the ropes. Probably be ready for a 2.8" when I get it out in the spring. Plans for winter are...... some transmission work, a double din DVD setup, N* and LQ4 MAF, aluminum subframe and maybe some of those nifty 04+ seats. All depends on how much work we get in the next few months...

Re: new guy 99 GTP total transformation

Anthony.. definately interested in the 3 clutch 4th. Once you have some more info on how it seems to be doing. Please share.
Looking really good. You've brought it a long way.

On the aluminum subframe. IIRC it's a 20 lb savings and they were prone to cracking with higher hp builds. Just tossing that out there before you do the work and potentially have one crack.

Re: new guy 99 GTP total transformation

get hid fogs they make a heck of a difference and look great. but anyway great job on the car it looks like it needed a good owner

Re: new guy 99 GTP total transformation

The 3 clutch 4th setup seems to be working fine but I wont know if its a viable idea until I tear the trans back down over the winter and check the condition of them. If I see good results with them maybe ill release some details haha. I wouldnt want other people wasting their time if it just fails miserably. The HID's are off the car totally. The ballast went out on one after like 3 months. They were from wbs, chinese garbage. Not worth getting pulled over for. My favorite thing yet was the first pull on E85, me and my friend riding along looked at each other like....holy ****

Re: new guy 99 GTP total transformation

haha we have the same pistons :)... how has the 030 bored block been holding up for you?

Re: new guy 99 GTP total transformation

the bottom end is rock solid. Ive got 16k miles on it and it sees 6100 rpm atleast once every time it comes out of the driveway. Never a problem

i have a block bored 030 over.. and ppl keep crying its a waste and so forth.. glad to see a 12.84 pass to stuff their foot in their mouth

I didnt go .030 to make more power, it only adds around 3ci of displacement total which will make no noticeable difference. The purpose of the .030 over bore was to bring the cylinders back to round as they measured up to .018 out of round during tear down and inspection. If you want to make a difference with pistons get them in 9.5:1 CR and run E85 permanantly. That could make some power!

understood.. and i quoted the time to show that.. a built car with bored block would hold up.. folk would go as far to say the engine wont last 2k and what not..

Sure. If you don't follow the correct steps.

I was just telling you that boring a 3800 .030" won't gain you any noticeable power...maybe a few HP...MAYBE. Probably not.
