Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

l36 hv3

To me it felt like the HV3 wanted to make the engine shift at a higher rpm. If you want mileage you should do exhaust work to make the air easier to get out. Putting more air in isnt going to get you better mileage. If you want power and mileage, get a good tune.

got it for my bday, had intake, downpipe and tune and i felt a difference @4200rpms and above.
it isnt going to do anything for mpg though.

the HV3 is an insert for your upper intake manifold made by ZZP. the factory insert is taller and blocks some air flowing into the manifold. by having a shorter insert, you are shortening the intake runners. runner length has a direct effect on where your peak HP and Tq are at. it is generally accepted that short runners give better top end HP and long runners increase low end tq. bluegtp91 has a point that you dont really loose your low end... it just moves it. the longer factory runners are tuned at a specific length to create and use a pressure pulse from the closing valves. by changing to shorter runners this pressure pulse returns much faster. at higher rpm this faster return can now be used and is where the increase in top end power comes from. I have a HV3 and i really dont think it is worth the cost or the effort to install it. i already had headers but really did not like the change. my cars pull down low is noticeably less and i rarely step on the car to take advantage of the higher rpm increase in power. i think to make the most of the gain one would have to upgrade the valve train for even more flow as with the ER rockers and make additional changes to rev the engine higher.

one example of the results of changing runner length happened with my old DOHC engine. in 96 GM redesigned the 3.4L DOHC with longer runners. these engines rev to 7,000 rpm stock. both generations of these engines pull strong right to the 7k limiter. from people that have 5spd's and have removed this limiter it seems this engine just keeps pulling well past 7,500 rpm. even with my 4t60e my DOHC pulled strong on my 14.81 track run when i took it holding 2nd to 7150rpm. when GM increased the runner length for the 96-97 engines they had an increase of 10ft-lb and 5-10hp at its peak stock the 96's peak tq is around 4,400 and hp is 5,200 now there were changes to the exhaust port shape as well that can contribute to the increase in hp #'s

^Yup all that. I didnt really notice much low end loss with the hv3. Thinkin back to how much of a difference it made when i had just a short ram intake and 2.5in custom downpipe my 0-60 was around 8sec flat. After the Hv3 it was around 7.5-7.7 so a noticable difference there. Then as time went more mods were added and the quicker i became. As the guy above said having valvetrain mods help too. ER rockers for instance.

OK...HA-HA...dmahlikGT...lets see your time slips...as it seems you are claiming to be the worlds fastest 3800, not ZZP with a twin turbo time of 8.65. If half an hour of wrench-turning to install an HV3 is too much work for you, than you are not a car guy.

dude...wtf are you talking about??

where did he say he was the fastest? he installed an hv3 in his car....

Whoaaa where you come from guy ^^^ My time slips.. for what ? As you see in my sig i ran in the 1/8th mile. I never claimed anything just relating. And my 8.0 sec was my near stock 0-60 soooo what are you getting confused with. ?

id like to see that race! a stock GP gt vs ZZP's beast. would be like something the would do on topgear. put the stig in the GT and put a nun or someone with no feet in the ZZP car. the host would be like see that car isnt that fast!
