• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

grand prix runs now... kind of a big deal

for those who don't know, i've been piecing together my build for a long time... i think it's been two years since i started buying parts. and almost a year since i tore it down. S2X cam, top swap, 105# springs, ported heads/lim/blower, 42.5# injectors, double roller timing chain. didn't have much besides a 1/4" and 3/8" drive socket set and a couple jackstands. well, tonight, i started it, and it ran, and stayed running. i even drove it out of the barn. to put it in perspective, i've been through two different colleges, bought 3 other cars, had 3 different girlfriends, lost my license for 6 months, and even got it back while this build was going on. it's not tuned yet, and the radiator i put in it is cracked at the side tank and leaking coolant and transmission fluid, and the high pressure fuel line is leaking, but damn it, the f*cker runs. i don't care that this is a dead platform, or that it's not the fastest thing out there, or that nobody really outside of this forum understands why i put that much time and money into a grand prix. it's mine, and i built it, and it works. this forum has been the most helpful and most supportive group of people through this whole ordeal, and i wanted you to share in my moment of bliss.

Thats a hell of a lot more rewarding then have some shop do it for you. You now have experience under your belt. And thats a lot more than the pre-built Prix owners can claim (including myself)

Good job. Did you change the radiator out for the one i gave you? When you getting it tuned?

yeah i did, i'll probably just buy a new one this time lol. not a tough job at least. but tuning and the last few fixes are probably gonna have to wait till mid july unfortunately. school is rather expensive. i'll probably tow it over to PRJ in indiana, the same place that cole had his done. i'll probably put some serious research into an ethanol conversion in the meantime, there are plenty of E85 stations in troy. i'll probably keep myself busy with cylinder leakdown tests and fuel pressure tests too, to make sure the head gaskets are solid and the kinks in my fuel rail aren't a problem.

i honestly about sh!t myself when it ran though. i was more nervous this time just because of how long it has been sitting. i'm sure the gas in the tank is bad, and there was no oil anywhere but the top end. i was waiting for it to seize, but no such occurence. seemed like i might have been getting some valve noise, but it might have just been a pulley.

oh well at least it was free lol. I'm probably gonna head down to prj pretty soon as i found out my afr was about 10.5 ish. I need a real tune for sure.

Nice! I remember following your build thread a while back. Glad to see shes up and running. Get that thing tuned and get some running vids!

i do need to get a video of it running now that it's smooth. i'm gonna hopefully take a TechII home from work tomorrow to see what codes the pcm is throwing, maybe i'll take one then
