Hmm... How difficult would it be to swap ABS from an equipped GT to a non-equipped SE and make both fully functional? I imagine a tune would be involved but other than that could I do a straight hardware swap? Both are 03.

What?? I have to disagree. I don't care how skilled of a driver you are....you will never be able to brake more effectively and efficiently than a properly functioning ABS system. ABS has saved my skin quite a few times at work.

Almost hit someone in the snow because of ABS.
I learned to drive on an old three on the tree pickup, and a mid 80's buick...the LOL's at thinking you had something to save you besides your right foot in a bad situation.
ABS also didn't help in a panic situation in my Cobalt wreck, granted, non-ABS equipped cars wouldnt have helped either. It's all personal preference.
Next time youre in some snow or ice, give it a shot. ABS just makes you slide all over the place, pumping the brakes...always seemed to work for me, so it's whatevs.

when i crashed my truck i was on dry flat pavement, (4 wheel abs) nailed the bakes and the pedal went to the floor, all i felt was the pedal pulsing and heard the abs grinding, needless to say i just rolled at almost the same speed i started braking and then slammed the crap out of the other car.
after the hit, my front wheel was under my truck and i drifted into the middle of the intersection. waited for cops and a tow truck.
the ifs in the gm trucks, well yeah the weak link is that wheels come off pretty easy, tore it off again while snow plowing, the wheel hit a wall between garage doors and it twisted the wheel right off. another night where i made money only to sink it back into the truck.

I have tested the ABS system in the crown vics many times. Rain/ice/snow/dry, it reacts differently as would non ABS. Hell, in our training at the academy we have to accelerate to 50 MPH.....then slam on the brakes and negotiate a wet pavement turn. It does work, it works well.
This argument is like arguing that seat belts and airbags kill. Yea, its not a perfect system, but its something I will never buy a vehicle without.
I'm curious......how was it the ABS systems fault that you almost hit someone?

I don't believe you understand how ABS works and/or what its supposes to do. It won't stop you sooner.....it allows your wheels to keep a small amount of traction on the roadway, primarily for control purposes.

i fully understand how abs works and why i dont like it so much, if you have no where to turn, (no escape route) you simply plow into what ever you wanted to avoid. and lets face it, when braking fully, your steering is not that great even with abs.
im my case, if the wheels had locked up i defiantly would have stopped before i hit the other car.
i have had lots of cars with out abs, only 3 with it so far, and have had more problems hitting stuff with abs, its not a perfect braking system by a long shot yet.
and a good driver with no abs will be able to deal with a real braking situation just fine. in any road conditions. where these abs system leave you on a tow truck for sure sometimes.
pumping the brakes does work well, and you have the control to push as hard as you need to, and let up a bit if you lock up the wheels. unlike abs where it takes all the fun out of driving. aka took the brakes away from your foot and your senses.

Ahhhh, I forgot to take that into consideration......you guys are all sprint cup drivers, totally in tune with your vehicles.
So I retract my opinion, as its not professional enough.....
Hmm, someone who drives a vehicle in emergency situations on a daily basis......or f1 quality drivers. Its a toss up.

I've learned a few things from this reply:
1) you have no concept of the physics of traction or braking. A locked up vehicle will rake longer to stop than a vehicle using less braking power with reaction
2) You may not realize it, but you drive differently when u know u have ABS.
3) its been proven time and time again that PROFESSIONAL drivers, when given the dame emergency braking scenario, perform better with ABS.
Don't believe me? Google is your friend. Popular mechanics, car & driver, road & track. They've all done tests.

lets keep in mind you were not in the truck with me when i hit this asshole, i was going 30 to 35 mph tops, with at least 50 to 60 feet to stop in. train kept on a rolling, with a line of traffic to my right, and a cement wall to my left. if i had control over weather the wheels locked or not i would have stopped, end of story. with the abs i was left helpless right up to the seine of the crash.

not always from higher speeds 100 mph or so a car with the tires locked up will stop faster but will destroy the tires.

Well, since this is the ABS debate thread now; 
In my experience, ABS = no stopping power. Debate all you want about it but it's not those trained professionals or whoever else driving my car; it's me, and I have actually been caught in two almost identical situations once in a car with ABS and once without: with ABS I ended up in a ditch, without I impressed my girlfriend (now my wife) and got out without a scratch.
On top of that, the ABS in my car doesn't work 90% of the time as is, and I've already checked and rechecked all the wiring. Therefore I would rather delete it than have it kick in unexpectedly at the worst possible moment. If in the process I can swap the ABS into my old SE and potentially raise its value then bonus points there.
Either way, I'd rather have no ABS than surprise ABS any day, so any comment on how to do that?
