Mystery oil leak

so you have a mechanical oil pressure gauge hooked up? but its not working? id check that line, it may have burnt on a hot pipe or rubbed through.

the aeroforce don't see oil pressure im sure because you don't have a stock pressure sensor installed i bet.

if you wanted to you could hook both up with a T fitting.

I just have the gauge. I have nothing else run or installed. I guess its just to fill a hole in my 3 gauge a pillar pod

Alright bought a new sensor and replaced it. Too soon to tell if that was the problem. I need to go under there and degrease and really clean it up. But holy crap is that sensor difficult to get to. You can hardly get a wrench in there. Or a ratchet for that matter

oh sorry about the install tip, i took the pass side tire off and reached in with a pair of channel lock pliers, i did the wrench deal in its a pain in the ass.

i had a socket that fit, but was unable to get a ratchet on it. went to a wrench and that flip it over for each 1/2 a turn got old fast, the next 2 were done with channel locks. they just need to be snugged up good.

I will have to remember that for next time. Yeah the half a turn or what felt like 1/16th of a turn got old but now its nice and snug. Thanks guys for the help

I also have a mysterious oil leak.. I check my oil and its always good. Only a couple drops, but my oil pan, above the oil pan, and part of the transmission case are in a light coat of oil. Could it be this sensor too?

I too noticed an oil leak on mine yest, I went out and turned the wheels to the left and looked at the sensor and sure enough it is leaking where it plugs in. It's leaking onto the pass side axle and throwing oil everywhere on that side while driving I guess. It's quite a mess at the moment but at least I know where it's coming from and how to fix it.

Well its almost evenly across the whole bottom side. I need to clarify a bit in that I have quite a few leaks when I noticed this, I have a coolant leak, HAD a CV axle boot tear, fixed that, and had an oil filter leak alll at one time, I fixed the filter, and the axle. But I can't find the coolant leak and small oil leak. The coolant is actually more concerning to me than the oil thou because its worse. I'll get some pictures up on here later today in a separate thread, but its leaking on the car's right side on the engine, where the belts are.

put your car on ramps and de grease the whole thing from the top and bottom, then re check for leaks, if need be clean it 2 or 3 times, you'll know if you need to do it more than once. the coolant leak sound like a water pump or plastic elbow is leaking.

I'm not understanding what's mysterious about a 3800 leaking? The only mystery to me is why you guys don't crawl under and look for the leak. Danielle did, now she happily accepts her leaky 3800.

Yeah its not a mystery alright... Mines leaked at least one type of fluid since I've owned it.
And sadly a tech friend of mine, who works at CAT, said it looks like it may be my water pump. I hope he's wrong :(

Make sure you tell your freind to check the cooling elbow on the LIM right above the water pump pulley before he goes changing your water pump. He may already know and has checked it. If he doesn't know about it, its a small black 90 degree elbow right above the water pump pulley. It connects the LIM water passage to the alternator bracket. They leak all the time and they're made of plastic.

Water pump is pretty darn easy on these cars. Want me to show you pics of the 96-99 Bonneville or Riviera with a big old engine mount in front of the pump?

How about a 2002 Chrysler Sebring V6...had to remove the entire front of the motor plus a engine mount. They're DOHC; timing belt and everything is in the way. The water pump runs off the timing belt. WTF It took me four hours to replace it and I did it for free.

Can it be just the water pump gasket??
My dad, who is a pretty good shade tree mechanic & was a mechanic on the Navy's jet engines, said that when a water pump goes bad, it leaks from the weep hole on the bottom... But my leak is on the top?
And i checked the elbow, it appears to be a-okay, unless it doesn't want to leak at idle.
