Venom Coolers (intercool your snout)

I am not sure if this is in the right spot or not but i am trying to see the interest in the 3800 community of venom coolers. A venom cooler is like a inter cooler for your blower snout it can either be tied into your stock cooling system or your after market inter cooling system.

What type of temp drops are expected here? I'm assuming this is for the oil in the snout?

Well consider I had a 3.4 pulley with a full size intercooler and the snout was 10-15* higher than the case yet the core was 20-30* cooler than the case.

Won't be useful unless you're running quite the small pulley I'd venture to guess.

temp drops appear to be in about the 100 degree range from what I was just told, but that also depends on the pulley size if you are tapping into you stock coolant lines or tapping into your I/C lines, here soon we will have stand alone units tho which will be the cooler with its own pump and little rad. to mount in the front of your car.

It does not go into the oil of the snout water jackets are made to cycle water around the snout and back out

pricing right now just for the front-drive (snout) is $450 but the more that are wanting to buy the cheap it gets so if enough people are interested in getting one we can arrange a group buy for you guys. I will be bringing in a Gen 3 front drive later this week and we will be making one for "alkygto" and we will be sure to post some photo's of that.

In the price of $450 you get the liquid cooled snout, 3 feet of line and the fittings. We will be working on a stand alone system but do not have the pricing for that just yet.

what function would cooler blower components serve?

If they were colder, they would probably have lower lubrication properties, as the blower bits would be operating out of spec....

Either way even if it did decrease the gear drag of the blower.... There is no way it is even going to come close to doubling the effiency, which even double effiency would net you less than a horsepower gain to the crankshaft.

With just adding a normal phenolic intercooler the snout temperatures drop TONS... I dont see more blower cooling helping more than a throttle body spacer would help a throttle body...

In the videos they claim that the Eatons suffer from bearing failure due to heat. I've seen plenty 200,000+ mile gen 3 blowers still running fine.

the snout is where all the heat of the blower comes from, by cooling the snout itself you help lower the temp of the blower itself in turn helping to lower your intake temps even more. Also even if you are running a phenolic you are still going to get heat transfer from the motor to the blower (not as much but it is still there) by keeping the whole blower cooler you eliminate heat soak which will take hp from you, and with a hotter blower you are going to be breaking down the oil and putting more stress on the bearings in the snout.

what size pullies where these 200,xxx miled blowers running? i run a 2.7 and I am pretty sure that mine will not last 200,xxx miles

Most were on stock pullies. In that respect how many members are actually running a 2.7" pulley that haven't gone turbo yet?

I run a 2.7 without any thought of switching to a turbo nor do i want one

I don't think those things will do anything for HP gain. He claims 25HP from heat soak loss between what I assume is track passes. An intercooler will work better and you can wire a switch to keep the pump on after your pass to keep heat soak down.

If you tie into the stock system the coolant is going to be at around 200* anyways. So in order to run this you would have to tie it into an intercooler system (like he states in the video) or put a heat exchanger on the front of the car.

Cool idea but not to practical. It would be better if you could cool the snout and the case together, even though that is what they claim it does. He is saying durability more than HP increase but I don't think that is a major issue anyways.

Would be cool if it weren't so expensive. $200 for a snout that I could tie into my IC system would be more feasible.

Actually most of the heat of the supercharger comes from the front drive. By reducing front drive temps you naturally reduce overall blower temps and if you tie this into your intercooler it eliminates heatsoak under all conditions, not just at the track but all the time. Improves intercooler efficiancy because the air going into the intercooler is now a lower temp.

$450 is for a rebuilt front drive, new upgraded bearings and seals as well as the Venom Cooler with full polish finish and a warranty from an Authorized Eaton remanufacturer that stands behind his products. I don't think his pricing is out of line at all.

BTW the hp claims are for the Cobra units so I don't see us gaining 25 hp on these cars. Also KB has a liquid cooled blower now and GM has a patent application out for a similar unit. Bob is patenting this mod on Eaton blowers and has sold units for the Cobras, Lightnings, GT500's, Mercedes, Mini's, Nissans and Jackson racing superchargers and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few.

I've seen them and they work guys!

I am not saying it doesn't work I am just saying for $450 it doesn't make sense for the minimal HP gain you are going to get out of our V6 motor.

Reliability wise its not even an issue. There are a lot of guys running sub 3.0 pulleys with just a upgraded coupler and their blowers aren't blowing out bearings in the snout.
