Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Any fellow GP'ers in the Northern Louisiana/Texarkana area?

Greetings,

I'm the proud owner of a 2000 GP GTP with about 127,000 miles. So far it hasn't given me too much in the way of trouble, mainly supercharger couplers going out. haha :th_lipssealed1: I try to take good care of it, listen to it's needs and take care of things as needed.

Anyway, I'm going to be installing a ported S/C from 3800perf here pretty soon, and while I'm elbow deep in the block I figure I'll go ahead and do a bit of preventative maintenance on the beast while I'm at it. Right now, I'm alone on all of this and I am very hesitant to take it to a shop, just so they can tell me it'll be $600 or more just for the labor alone to install the crap.

I've done most of the other work on my car myself, but the engine bay/block is still a little over my head. I've watched videos and read tons of stuff about it, and I feel like I'm mentally prepared, but I have absolutely zero personal experience. And being that this is my daily driver and only car, I really don't want to mess it up or be without a car for a while if I happen to.

So thus my post: Are there any fellow GP enthusiasts around this area who may be able to help me? Or recommend me a good place?

The parts I want to replace while in there are namely:
  • Upper/Lower Intake Gasket
  • Various O-rings (Injectors etc)
  • Coolant Elbows
  • Valve Cover Gaskets
  • TB Gasket
  • Head Gaskets (if needed, I may not need them)
  • Oil Pan gasket

Now, I realize that it's a bit of a laundry list of things, but you do them right once and I shouldn't have to worry about them for some time. My car is paid off, so I'm aiming for at minimum 200k miles... preferrably 250k!

Thanks guys! :th_jester:

In the Shreveport/Bossier area.

And I have NO idea why this post was posted twice. haha. Kinda makes me feel like a noob considering the fact that I can't find how to delete my post!

So mods, please delete my other post. :-x

haha... yea. I don't gamble too much, if ever. As times get harder, the slots get drier. ;)

Do you know of any other people such as us in the area? I'm honestly just hoping to locate someone who is familiar with the 3800 series engines to have as a support buddy, to collaborate with, as well as help me with the repairs/upgrades and help teach me to become more confident in my own repairs.

Have you done most of your mods yourself? My car, so far in terms of upgrades, are modest: I've got a short ram intake, front and rear sway bars /w poly bushings, trailing arms and rotors. All of them were easy enough!

Hahah they sure do.
I use to know of at least one 3800 guy in s/bc a while back, but he moved to California. I've done rockers, springs, headers, suspension, intake, and previously had a pulley drop.

I also tune. :)

I ultimately plan on doing the usual stuff, such as PCM, downpipe/exhaust/etc work, smaller pulley, headers, a mild cam, etc.

But before I do ANY of that, I want to make sure my engine is purring like a kitten and is perfectly healthy before I start adding power. This is my DD, not my weekend racer, so my goal is to increase the power/drivablity of the GTP while maintaining and/or increasing reliability.

Hmm, well might you be willing to one day collaborate together and help a brother out with his car tinkering and education?

I'd be very much oblidged. :D

I was under the impression I was all alone down here. lol. I was just hoping for a miracle I guess. ;)

Awesome, thanks man!!

Also, I have a quick question that I was hoping that you or anyone else may know the answer to...

I was recently informed that my torque struts/mounts need to be replaced.

I've been reading up on this, but I'm a little confused as to what a torque arm/strut/mount actually is and what it does. Some people have said that they're simply control arms, whereas other sources say it is the front dog bones. I'm more inclined to think that it's the dog bones, but just to be sure, which one is it? haha :th_lipssealed1:
