Ls1 pcm??

I'm curious as to the possibility of using an LS1 PCM with the 3800 platform. I know the connectors are the same, but the internal hardware is somewhat different, but there are so many more parameters available, and the tables are considerably larger/more resolute. I don't have an issue with the re-pinning of the wiring harness, but I am curious as to how the timing/ignition system will feed since we use an ignition control module and coil packs as opposed to coil-on-plugs. I haven't the slightest clue if the transmission controls are even remotely close, either, but I am getting frustrated with the ridiculously-small amount of parameters I have to work with. If anyone has any experience or logical theory to share, please do so.

i say no just because if you cant use a 97 pcm on any other car, how could u use a totally different platform pcm

Youd have to tune it even if you could get it to work because i'm sure they didn't run 2.93 gear in the ls1

You can run a 97 in different things.. like a 96. Because not everything was about the Grand Prix/W body. They were actually the late comers to the S2 engine.

I recently saw an HPT beta software update that you'd be interested in if you tune with HPT. It has a bunch more tables unlocked. The other way to do it would be with Eddies table tool/tiny tuner etc. There are a boatload of tables that we can't see in our pcms. Only reason behind that is the software etc that we use, doesn't have it opened up to see it.

An example, recently I swapped a trans in my car and ended up using a diff with a 34 tooth VSS reluctor. Now our reluctors are supposed to be 30 tooth. Intense Racing used 34's when the programming wasn't known and you were using 3.29 gears. Well, that sufficiently pissed off the pcm. I noticed the speedo off and corrected the pulses per mile to be perfect. Afterall, that's the only thing that is off. The car didn't like that much at all. There are clearly other tables in the background that we can't see that may be effected by other changes that we make.

HPT added a lot of stuff for correctly adding fuel injectors and offsets etc. LS1's have had this and more with HPT, but the V6 platform never seemed to get it. It's all there, just hidden from you.

I am using the 2.23 beta of HPT and have the fuel injector tables available. One of the things I would like to do is have the larger timing tables that can accommodate for more than .92 g/cyl airmass. The tuning is not a problem, nor is the difference in pin-out. My concern is the functionality.

As far as using Tiny Tuner goes, I only have .hpt files to work with. Until I can convert or get a DHP, I'm limited there. I do have access to an LS1 PCM, however - thus the brainstorm.

Hey, I live 15 minutes away from collinsville...Ill be there tomorrow :)

:Edit: I just realized this was and older post.. Sorry for bringing up the dead.

As soon as I procure a beater car to drive while I do surgery to this one, I think I will attempt to see if I can make the LS1 computer work.

Bill has a link to all the .bin files available so you can use those with tinytuner and then load them with hpt. You won't be able to read hpt files with tinytuner but you can still use it.

Bonnevillepro.com in teh tuning section. I have a bunch more to add, but you can find those in this forums tuning area in a link to a zip file that darkhorizon posted.
