Turbo 108 Octane Booster in my 97 GP GTP Supercharged?

I am wondering if anyone else has used the turbo 108 octane booster in their Grand Prix GTP supercharged? The car calls for premium unleaded fuel, but I hate paying the extra 20 cents or so for the premium. I know I should use premium fuel all the time to prevent knocking and what not. If I fill up with 87 octane and then use the turbo 108 octane booster, that should produce the same effect as using 93 premium octane fuel, right? Is using the turbo 108 octane booster good for the engine performance? Or is this not recommended for the 3800 series 2 supercharged engine? Thanks!

That octane booster usually gives you a fraction of an octane or so, so instead of running 87, you would have 87.2 or so....

Sent from my sweet DROID Razr Maxx

Ya it's seriously only $2-3 for premium. If really don't want to use it then I wouldn't go any lower then 90 octane.

Yeah I don't have a problem filling up with the higher octane, but if I also use the octane booster, will that be good for engine performance even tho it will only be adding.0.2 to the 91 or 93 octane level? I don't wanna do it if it would cause problems, but if it doesn't, and will improve performance or hp, I might as well use the stuff I got

Octane boosters do exactly what cop said, they add usually a tenth.

So, your 87 goes to 87.2, or maybe even 87.5 if its strong stuff.

If you aren't filling it with 91+ everytime at the pump then I feel sorry for that car. Boosted cars NEED premium fuel...always. Now if you are using 91 and add the octane booster I'm sure that'll help it a little, or adding it to some pump 92 or even 93. I always ran 93, hell I even run 91 in the N/A silver car I have. Why? Because these cars knock from the factory. Knock destroys these things. Look at it this way...

$3~ per fill up, or $500+ for a new bottom end.

Thoughts?

Depending on on how long you plan to own your vehicle. Say premium is $0.25 cents higher than midgrade, and say you put 15 gallons in the car. You would save $3.75 per tank of fuel. Times that by 200, and filling biweekly. You'd probably come out even..... or I'm just blowing smoke.

if the extra 2 dollars per fillup is hurting your wallet THAT bad, you should ride a bicycle OR if your too cheap to use the correct fuel for your SUPERCHARGED motor then you should buy a Honda

edited because i correct myself..i used 93 octane as required in my Honda Prelude ;)

Run 93 and save yourself money. Octane isn't a power adder. Octane only prevents knock, which will prevent knock retard. If you don't knock on 93 adding octane isn't going to help.

But it's more fun replacing the bottom end. Filling up your tank with gas isn't fun at all.

No it does not hurt my wallet. I always fill up with premium, if it be 91, 92, 93... whatever. I was just wondering if adding the octane booster would be like a supplement, rather than using premium. but that has been answered, and no it does not. haha i am definitely not too cheap to use the correct fuel for my supercharged 3800. I would never buy a honda. GM all the way.

I would much rather have my powerful gtp, and run premium fuel, than have a stupid se or even gt. :th_tongue2:

Ummm, what's up with this Mr. Change muh story...
