anyone run an rx-8?

Hey guys, new to the forums, have a '99 SSEi (same motor as gtp, blah blah blah) - It has 170xxx miles on it, so I am in the market for a GTP. Wanted to know if anyone with minimal or no mods at all has run a M6 rx-8?

The guys over on 3800pro concur that it would most likely be me handing it to him, but just wanted some more opinions. Thanks guys! :th_peaceout:
 


running against the rx-8 in the ssei or when u get the gtp? either or, it'd be close depending on what speeds. if the race is from a dig, my money's on you, however from a 40mph or higher roll, it'd be close as the 3800 motor doesnt have topend to save its life.

Also depends if its an auto....they are a bit slower due to the tranny and the auto's have 212hp were as the 6spd has 232hp.

I said M6 in the original post haha, yeah the auto's are nothing special at all. I don't even think they make 212, at least the early model ones, they only made a mere 197.

Oh yeah and don't forget, even the manual tranny with 237 hp makes a whopping 149 lbs/ft. of torque :th_biggrin2:
 


M/T RX-8's are not fast. The run 15 second 1/4 miles and don't have nay torque...

You will beat one in a straight line. They are meant for handling and are balanced nearly 50/50!

Good point. I see you have a CL-S. Slick car. Is it the manual? Always wanted to drive one.. the seats look soo nice.
 
I'm not sure if I still count as minimally modded, but I destroyed one earlier this summer. 5-6 lengths by 60MPH

Yeah, I'd have to agree. I know a guy that has one with bolt-ons and we ran when I had an intake and u-bend delete and I walked him no matter what roll we went from or dig...those things have NO torque whatsoever...IIRC it is like 159 ft. lbs. from the factory.

Unfortunately it is not a manual. They only made the 6-speed manual for one year(2003). The seats are one of my favorite things about the car too! My car is faster then the manual cl-s if its stock...I've got headers, cai, 3rd gen TL wheels. I've raced quite a bit of cars:

Respectable list of mods and kills. It's a shame they only made the manual in 2003, I couldn't remember what year it was, I just knew it was the last year they made the CL's. Now if only the '03 and prior TL-s was manual..
 
I raced one and it whooped me. About 3 or 4 cars.:D

Nah i was just playing lol Im sure it would be the other way around + one or two cars on top of what was stated above.
 


I ran into a auto rx-8 last night. Was just like running a v6 stang.... pointless:th_shakinghead1: pulled several cars from the start and just got worse from there.... but he was courteous enough to give me the "ricer flyby" once I slowed down lmao

Haha, yeah I honestly think a v6 tiburon could take an auto rx-8.:th_biggrin2:

I am planning on going from about a 30 or 35 roll so my car will drop into first and I have a big enough lead to comfortably go into 3rd without worrying about that ****:th_shakinghead1:
 
a former friend of mine ran a 15.6 at the track, his sounded crazy but, it was slow, they killed that car. making it with a ford Renisis rotary instead of cosmo rotary, like the rx7's. very dissapointed with the rx8...:th_shakinghead2:
 
how are the eclipse's tuned? how they running? my buddy has one and swears up and down it'll eat my GP but i dunno about that lol
