Pulley Swap MPG's

It's different than factory, therefore a modification.

I found this I typed up last year...giving you some examples,

Efficient means in this state that it is taking LESS power and LESS boost to make the same amount of power as an older...LESS efficient blower would...example...GenIII. Comparing all the outlets, inlets, blower displacement, rotor coating materials, and initial size of the rotors changes everything.

This might be a good comparison.

The 1st generation M62 supercharged 3800 Series I used a 2.9" pulley from the factory...made over 10psi...and only made like 200 or so horsepower, because it was horribly inefficient.

The 3rd generation M90 supercharged 3800 Series II used a pulley NEARLY an inch larger in diameter (stock 3.8" pulley)and made 40 more horse...on nearly half the boost...worlds better than the previous Gen M62...but still a Heaton blower.

The 5th generation M90 supercharged 3800 Series III used the same size pulley...and they were rated 20 horse more BUT...more prone to knock because of the fact that then GenV flows much better and is way less parasitic due to better intake tracking, rotor coating/materials as well.

You OP guy...need to see the last part of my quote.

As well, IF you read the safely modding thread I typed up...you would have read where I said stage kits from any vendor are absolute JUNK. Also, getting a way to SCAN the car AND doing preventative maintenence should be the first things you do to the car...Aeroforce scan gauge, or a tuner...fluids, brakes, tires, hoses, plugs/wires/filters...etc.

Indeed they did.

Sorry, don't need to justify yourself to me.

Everything I type seems to be an random tangent.

This kinda reminds me why I should post less haha.

Its all good, it's hard to know people's intents through typed words much of the time.

Back to the subject of the thread..
Count me in as one more vote for headers before pulley swap.

Honestly, The 04+ making more hp from the factory was a combination of factors, A more refined blower being one of them, also the fact they ran 4-5* more timing advance on average helps.

Sorry, I do have a 180 tstat. Thanks for all the help. I think headers and a PMC are in order.

The slicks remark brings me to another question. I have always had a problem with traction when flooring it from a stop, what are good daily tires that still provide more traction then most.

Roll into it?

How old are the tires.

I'm running goodyear fuel max's, they hook nicely once warmed up. Before that I had five year old allegra's which didn't do well even warmed up.

I'm also making around 60 odd WHP more than you probably are.

A good A/S tire that provides good traction would be the michelin pilot sport A/S plus.

Pricey and don't last as long as other tires, but the traction is there.

Depends on your location.

Could you run a High performance Summer tire?

To answer your mpg question i'm getting better gas mileage now then before i modded i'm sure it has to do a lot with the motor being able to breathe better.

I got better MPG's with ported heads and a cam and a tiny ass pulley...

Stop flooring it from a stop.

That'll help from spinning the tires; its called learn to launch the car.

i learned to launch and now can't spin off the line w/o feeling like a complete tard.

and plus 8 on headers
plus 2 on aeroforce

I don't go fast off the line often, so maybe I need more practice. Are the Goodyear fuel max tires good? I'm close to Pittsburgh so unless I get a second set of tires I won't be about to run straight summer tires.

After hearing all of your great input I think I will just do headers and PMC in which should free up hp and give better mpg I'm assuming.
