Today I was doing a new LIM. All was going well until I had a probelm with one of the injectors. I was pulling number 6 out in the pack drivers side. It popped out harder than I wanted and I noticed that the rim around the bottom just below the o-ring was broken. It had a piece missing out of it. I sure that this happened when I pulled it out.

I was concerned that it fell into the injector hole in the head. I looked the best I could but that thing could be any where. It could have fallen in the hole it went some place else. I took a shop vac with a small end on it made of 3/4 inch copper and put it on the injector hole hoping to vac it out. I have no idea if it did.

Next I had to put an injector that I had on the shelf from another motor. I believe that it is a stock injector. Dummy me, I put it in the same hole that the one broke in. When I got the car started it wwas running rough and I got an immediate flashing check engine light so I shut it down.

I put my actron on it and it said misfire in 6 which is where the injector was that came from the shelf. So that didn't tell me if it was the injector or the piece. So I took another injector off the shelf and put it in #3 up front and put the #3 injector in the back in #6. I left the old code without erasing it and started the car. It was still running rough and I got the code multiple misfires. Well that had me confused so I decided to erase the code and see what it would say.

I erased the code and started the car. No check engine but it was running rough so I knew it would throw a code so I shut it off. I scanned it and got a pending code P0202 "injector circuit open - cylinder 2".

What have I done? Can anyone help please?

sounds like you have a bad injector, put your old one back in you dont need those clips, and that little piece of plastic isnt going to hurt anything.

The injector on the left in the picture shows the small brown plastic ring that broke (not this injector though). The one on the right is the actual injector that the plactic broke on. I messed with it a little when I saw the piece was broken then the rest of it came off.

So are you saying that I do not need that little plastic piece? Can I put this injector back in without the piece on there at all?

I found the part I took off and snapped it back on (it's like a C-clip now:D). Anyway. This shows the size of the piece that is missing and how the injector looks now. so what do you think?

Those brown rings are only retainers for the O-rings. It is common for them to chip or break off completely even changing the O-rings. I have two broken plastic retainers on mine and never had any fueling issues. Just remove that cracked retainer and install the injector. Just make sure that the 0-ring doesn't fall in.

OKay sounds good. I will remove the oring retainer and put the old original injector back in. We will see what happens.

So when you remove the retainer how much trouble do you have if you pull the injector. Does the oring come off and do I have to worry about that falling in?

I have a retainer that is complete but it has a crack in it. Would it be better to snap that on there or is that just asking for additional trouble?

If it says open circuit that means you have an unplugged injector

Oh, you nailed it on that one my friend! I went out and checked it and it was completely unplugged:o When you said that I thought, well, I was working pretty quick to change those injectors around so maybe I did leave it unplugged. Sure enough...

I will go out in a few minutes and see if the roughness is gone.

okay so everyone seemed to be correct, thnak you. The car is running smoothly again.

Opinions - I currently have the off the shelf injector in the car with a good o-ring retainer on it. The original injector with no o-ring retainer is out of the car. So should I put the old one back in or leave it with the off the shelf injector since it seems to be running smoothly?

O-rings won't typicaly fall into the motor because they are larger than the hole, because........they are meant to seal the hole!

The retainer piece is commonly more of a hassle than it's worth. No worries on it.
