heres another thought. buy a used supermoto. maybe a suzuki drz400sm, honda crf230m or yamaha wr250x. they are all very light, and very fun. that actually might allow you to transition over quite nicely since you have dirtbike experience.
For this time of year, going into winter, I'd offer a few hundred less, but not much less. That would be a heck of a deal summertime price.

Insurance on a bike is cheap period. My brother had a 07 R6S and his insurance was ridiculously cheap, like $70 a year.I agree with him here. My first bike was a drz400sm. ****ing love that bike. I still have it and wont get rid of it. Such a fun bike. Still pretty quick, very light, easy to ride. And awesome on gas, dirt cheap insurance too. Insurance will be alot more if you get a sport bike dont forget.
what do you say about 1500?
I rode mine as fast and hard as possible for the first 3 years I had it. Then spun a con-rod bearing at 9.5k miles strictly due to my riding style, ~100mph 5-6 days a week.
