Letter From GM

Just got a letter from GM saying there has been a recall for a part of the grand prix's engine. It says to take it to a GM dealer and they will fix it with no charge, The problem was that the car has a higher front rocker cover gasket temp which creates for early degradation of the front rocker cover gasket and eventual oil seepage. The letter is so long so I just summed it up... If this was already posted then sorry I didn't see it.

yeah. just take it in and theyll change the gaskets. but there are theories that this is not the reason these engines catch fire. due to oil taking a **** load of heat before it would spontaneously combust. check the quick connect fuel fittings on your fuel rail (the nylon lines that meet the metal) push on them and see if they leak gas at all

Wow... recall has only been going on for... how many years now? I'm really surprised your car hasn't burned to the ground yet :p

you mean one of these? got mine last week, after a year and a half of ownership.

same thing, front valve cover, just the front, not the back, the one that always leaks. i agree the fuel lines are more suspect than the valve cover.

i got one not too long ago and took it to the dealership they took off somethiing that didnt need to be messed with and swear it was gone before they got to working on it.. bull**** i know but o well

Aww, now I feel left out. :(
I've owned mine for (lemme think) 4 months and 19 days and I haven't got a letter.
Oh well, if it burnt to the ground I guess I'd just have to get a GTP. :D

Hrmm... I HAVE a GTP and have owned it for almost 3 yrs and no letter. Altho I think it was done before I bought the car, so that's probably it. lol

i called the dealership when i bought the car and they said the recalls were up to date and now i get the letter it pisses me off.

i called GM as well to find out if my car was covered under warranty for the rack and pinion. no dice! looks like mine was built at the right plant.

regals have a recall for the headlights, and the rocker cover, only the head light one has been done on my car, it has a sticker on the rad support that it was done. and GM confirmed that it was done as well.

mine had the recall done before i bought it in 2009. When I went to install headers, my back manifold was covered in oil. What next you say? a set of aluminum valve covers. Sometimes GM and their f*cking plastic really pisses me off.

I don't get a letter per-say, just a 3x5 card requesting that I set up an appoinment to get the recall fixed. Approx. every 2-3 months.

I thought it also had something to do with the spark plug wire holder position? idk, fixed it all myself anyways :)

im under the impression for the GTs it's the spark plug retainers and for the GTPs it was the front v/c gasket.
