A lot of questions about tires and rims

Hi, guys, I am new to this forum and looking for a set of winter tires since winter is already there.

orMy vehicle is 2005 GT. I know the factory standard is 225/60/16, but for winter tires, can I go for a smaller size? Say 215(210)/65 16 or 225/65/15 or 205/70/15. I am really concerned about how the different size will affect the braking system. For a smaller size, how to figure out the corresponding offset value?
For instance, will the linked ones be good? Michelin X-ice2 winter tires - Edmonton Tires, Rims For Sale - Kijiji Edmonton Canada.

Another question is about the rims. In my local Kijiji, I found enough sets, but most of them come off different vehicles, so how could I know these rims will go with my car or not. I can check the bolt pattern and offset but what about the front/rear center bore? For those ad selling rims, I can only find the specs for diameter and bolt pattern, (some give offset) but it seems none of them says what width it will fit. Does that mean rims will fit tires with different widths?

215/65r16

look for those.

will fit just fine and are cheaper.

won't be able to safety the vehicle on them though.

Tire width has to be the same or higher.

probably.

Note winter tires come with 10 or more 32nd's of tread.

Namely because after they hit 8 or 7 they're pretty useless.

Unlike all seasons which are useless at 5.

3 is legal, but you're dumb if you wait that long.

Thanks again for your reply.
I'll check the tires carefully before making any decision.
Right now, I am quite clear about the tire size.
but still confused about the centre bore problem.
What specs have to be satisfied when looking for rims?
I only know 5*114.3 pattern offset 34-45.
what about the front/centre bore? Can they differ from the standard one 70.3mm?

same or larger on the bore.

5x115 is our bolt pattern. 5x114.3 works fine.

stock offset is +52 or something dumb.

Its okay to go down to +35-45 with a stock width tire/wheel.

Might actually look a little better.

Appreciate your reply again.
Now I know what kind of tires and rims I should go for.

snow or ice tires?

Steelies are nice and cheap.

Alloys like to pit.

So go with whats cheap and in good shape.

Or buy new.
