Stratus Smackdown

Driving home today (on the typical drag racing road) I see this car in the rearview and this guy is just flying. He probably gained a mile on me in a minute or less....and I was already doing a few over the limit (pushing 60 in a 55). In preparation for what I hoped to be a decent race (yea, I'm the guy who prepares for this lol), I kicked it down into 3 (so I wasnt' beating on 4th right away but I did shift back to D later) and hit the trac button.
So as this guy is getting closer I kick it up to 75 and for a few seconds I notice I'm pulling away from him. I hold 75 for a while then I see him jump in the left lane and now hes starting to gain on me again. I let him catch me and when we get even I get the glance I'm looking for......that was enough of a "lets race" for me. ;)
Pretty much from that point on I was pulling on him and by 90 I had what I'd guess to be a car length or two. After that I gave one tap of the brakes and let off the gas. He eventually passed me but we were still nose-tail at the next stop sign and I kept right with him when he went tearing away from the stop sign. Next light though he turned left and I continued on my way home.

I know it's nothing fancy but a win is a win in my book. :D

I dont. I own a 2003 eclipse GTS(samething as a stratus RT basicly) and I ran a 15.03@91 or 93 mph stock. about what a typical GTP thats stock would run.

OOOOOOOOOH SNAP SON! You SMOKE that 15 second car like a BAUCE!!! Someday you'll run 14's, better get a rollcage, helmet, and a shute first though.

When it's working...
have you ever owned one or is this a my friend had a friend type of thing. ive owned 2. i have more problems with my gxp than both of my stratus' combine. i will however say i love my gxp more than any other car ive ever owned.

Its no big secret the chrysler 2.7 had major oiling issues. Never heard of the status RT using the 2.7 though. Just the 3.0l and I assume the newer is the 3.8

Yep. Had a sebring with the 2.7 in it. Oil light started flickering on and off randomly. Googled it, found out about sludge issues, convinced parents to let me get a GP, and here we are lol

not saying i doubt you but i dont understand what a motor itself has to do with sludge issues. i would think it would be the maintenance or oil type. i could be wrong though.

intake, catless headers, tuned...auto R/T...I think an '03...went fourteen eighty something down here...

Impressive?

Meh, I guess so.

Go run a 3.0, the 2.7 is junk.

so what yr was the stratus. the new ones have 283 hp.

Well for all inquiring minds it looked like one of these....

Through a quick check on Wikipedia the body style narrows it down to '95-'00 but I have no idea of which exact year it was.
I knew what it was the instant I saw it in the rearview....there are some cars you can't mistake and a Stratus is definitely one of those.
