Grand Prix manual trans

I have a 2005 gtp and the transmission is dying, and its a pretty penny to fix. Ive done some research and using a G6 manual trans would cost just a little more (minus the install). Would it be worth it?

I dont think its the trans anymore but maybe you can help me out. Ill get to 2000 rpm and then itll drop and I can feel a drop in power at constant throttle. Then when I let off, it "blips" up to about 1700 rpm and then goes back to idle. Whats causing this?

G6 tranny isn't exactly a direct bolt-on and it can't handle our motors power too well. Not too mention you have to have custom axles made.

Anyways...there is a drop in solution believe it or not....but its gonna cost you...roughly around $2,000-$4,000. There are around 40-50 2nd gen w-body's that have been converted to manual btw.

So what you need.
-Getrag 284 (1st gen w-body)
-Clutch pedal custom fitted to your current pedal assembly (1st gen w-body)
-Clutch lines and reservoir (off 1st gen w-body)
-3800 camaro flywheel
-Custom made clutch
-1st gen w-body output shaft axle stub end (hard to find, had one in my hands before selling it, you keep your stock axles and slide this piece in on just the drivers side)
-1st gen w-body shifter and shifter cables
-all the little ****...like bearings and what not

Now believe it or not all the holes are pretty much there to do this, I have read this stuff over and over again on the little bit of information I could find. But no one has done it to a 3rd gen w-body. After everything is said and done you would still need someone to then tune the car as this change in setup will affect the engine and you need someone to clear about 25 different codes (if you have inspections).

This thread is a documented build...read it...read all of it like I did....and then read it again. He does sort of tell you everything you need and what to do and some of it you have to figure out on your own. Its just cool to see everything bolt right in no problem.

Me...I took the $4,000 route and bought a Saab with a 5sp manual to drive daily to get my manual fix...and then $2,500 in a built Tim King tranny. These cars do make more sense as an auto though...in a wierd sort of way, when I jump back in the prix and drive it, it makes sense that it is a 4sp auto. I don't know but it does.

wow thanks guys, that really helps. I do like the 6spd idea if thats not too much more. They sell the steering wheel with the paddles and the shifters too for not that much more, so i figured it would fit in well and need just a little retuning
