New Study Finds Women Should Only Be Making 20 Cents Less On Dollar Than Men

WASHINGTON—A new study released Monday by the U.S. Labor Department found that women, who currently earn 23 cents less on the dollar when doing the same work as men, should in fact be earning only 20 cents less than their male counterparts. "This is 2011, and it is frankly ridiculous that women earn only 77 percent of what men make, when they should clearly be making 80 percent of what men make," department spokesman Frank Neiderberg said. "There's simply no doubt that, in this day and age, women contribute a full four-fifths of what men do to the economy. No doubt whatsoever." A coalition of feminist groups said the report "is a small step in the right direction, but doesn't go nearly far enough," causing many observers to point out that nothing is ever good enough for those people.

most of the women i have ever worked with only work about 1/2 as hard as most of the guys doing the same thing

But how they supposed to make my sammich if they aren't in the kitchen??

Also, I second dsmuts...Every job I've ever had, the women dont put in nearly the effort guys do.

Women can do anything that men can do. Except math, chess, running, jumping, lifting stuff, fixing things, making money, hockey, surfing, driving, making decisions, being tall, taking out the garbage, tipping, fishing, being funny on purpose, reading a map, listening to good bands, writing, running the country, overseeing standards and practices, inventing anything important, or being fun to hang out with.

I'd like to see how this study is broken down, because the fact that a lot of women work jobs that allow them to be flexible or focus on the family while a lot of men work jobs to support their family in the longrun, often spending less time at home for their career/money. It's a system that has worked well for years up until this bull****. If you want that figure to be equal, then we should have been made asexual.

ha The Onion.

when i used to work at kmart, everyone had to go retrieve carts. 2 feet of snow, hail, rain whatever you had to get them. if a girl had to get them they would magically dissapear, if it was summer outside, they would be the first ones out there...

I know the article is a joke, but the notion is definitely out there. I have no problem with women in the workforce regardless of position or stature. However, I DO have a problem with the unsubstantiated claim that they can do "anything" just as well as men. If this is the case, why do most fire departments either have lower testing standards for women firefighters, or lower the standards in general to allow women to pass "equal" tests as men? Why is the regulation basketball size 28.5" for women regardless of level (even in the WNBA) while men have to use 29.5" starting at age 10!? Why is the 3-pt line in the WNBA the same distance away from the basket as the official high school 3-pt line, while the men's 3-pt line moves further back in college, and even further still in the NBA? SAYING "we're as capable" means nothing. Talk is cheap. When women become willing to have the same standards required of them as men do, and MEET those standards, THEN they can demand equal pay.

The truth is, regardless of what the PC crowd would like you to think, we are NOT all created equal. This only becomes a problem because people see differences as a negative, which it is not. In fact, it is what creates and holds together a society. The fact that we all have different strengths, if utilized properly and if everyone works in accord, allows a society to work and function. One person can do this, another can do that, this one over here is terrific at the other thing, etc. On the other hand, to pretend that we are all on the same level in everything leads to a society's demise because we are now pretending incompetent people are capable, so that which we are relying on them to do will not be done, or at least won't be done properly.

Manual labor jobs... I've known some women that'll do just as much if not more work than men. On the other hand, I've met far more women that'll never lift a finger (but that's how they're raised).

Intellectual jobs, they tend to be on par. I mean, an accountant is an accountant, regardless of gender. Well, no... female educators are statistically dumber (also in my experience). But aside from that, a scientist is a scientist and a lawyer is a lawyer.

Wait, this is about an onion article... how did folks get serious? :th_jester:
