• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Crazy Taz and his wire tuck.

Yes, anytime a battery is installed inside the passenger compartment (which includes the trunk), the batter either needs to be sealed or vented to the outside air. There are fumes that come off the battery, as stated, that can be quite hazardous.

The most common would be Optima Red or Yellow Top.

and bill I havent started it yet I got called into work last night and as soon as that happened I called it quits for the day... also cause I ran out of heat shrink... I thought about just tapping it but then I was like wait stop... do you want to have a fire... so I stopped picked up more heat shrink and wire last night.

I got all day today and heres what I got on my list.
-finish soldering and heat shrink "I have 6 wires left and thats it''
-tape
-wire loom
-ground starter
-run starter power line
-fuse power line
-fuse main line
-mount battery tray
-check everything
-call fire department tell them to be ready...
-start
-look for the source of the smoke
-fix problem
-put bumper, lights, etc back on

Yes, it is. But when you have a battery where fumes can accumulate, you need either that, or a box that is sealed and vented to the outside. Not a vent just in the trunk.

Safety first, remember.

And isn't the picture you took of the OnStar box?

Well the only ones I have seen mounted in the car from a factory is the buick riviera my buddy had and it was under the backseat. It had special vents that was hooked up to a rubber hose, and then that rubber hose led outside. I've never seen another batt have vents like that and you couldn't really do that with yours. If your ever board and have a low battery... Put that thing on a charger at 6 amps and then put some fire on a stick and hold it around the top of the batt, you'll get a good little pop when the hydrogen gas ignites. Not something I would be rolling around with a trunk full of... Again think Hindenburg... It used hydrogen gas to float so I doubt that vent at the very deepest part of the trunk is gonna help get rid of a gas thats lighter than air.

Not trying to rain on your parade just don't wanna see one of those relays right under your arm click on and your car turn into this....

and what If I were to put it in a box and run hose from the box to outside the car somewhere? and I do have another battery in the garage but it's a biggin for the power boat idk if it's vented

That would work just fine, I would personally just get a nice sealed battery and avoid it all together... There's more gas being produced than you might think, last batt I had on the charger I could light the hydrogen gas coming out the top every 10 seconds or so and get a nice pop. This is kinda lame but it shows how easily it ignites and how violent it is when it does ‪Car Battery Explosion - hydrogen explosion‬‏ - YouTube

hmmm maybe I should leave the battery where it was untill I can get one of those...or try and rig someting up like this

Only problem there Is I don't weld never have in my life so It would probablly take me all day, look like crap and fall off in a mile or two...

I'm going to go and finish what I can do and think about the situation maybe I'll come up with something

Is that "vent" directly under the 3rd brake light?

If it is, imagine the scenario that you are driving around on a hot summer day, windows up, ac on... it vents thru this vent, into the cabin with you, no way out as AC is just circulating the air around and the harmful vapors... yea just make sure its vented OUT of the CAR, not just the trunk into the cabin area with you

lmfao, They still make batteries like that because %99 of them are still under the hood and have adequate ventilation and its cheaper as you can tell from the price of a sealed one. I wouldn't be scared to start it at all, I would probably just roll with the windows down and the passthrough opened up to keep the air moving. Check out craigslist for a used optima, I see them from $75-100 once in a while... Or I know Kinetic makes a good sealed battery, but I've never bought one(only installed for people) so I don't know the prices.

for the amount of time it would take to accumulate you can totally start it up! and drive to the store and buy a yellow top lol
