Ok just asking..I have a set of 2005 Bonnie GXP rims. One was chunked last Sept. one spoke was curbed in an anrea down to the metal. the lip was hit also with some scratching.

I will get pics of what my rim looks like but just doing a quick google search. this picture almost matches my scratch.
The very top spoke in the picture almost mimics the only huge scratch I have on my rim.

What would you do to try and get it fixed if you were to DIY.
I am assuming these are painted rims under the clear..so if I get it smooth enough..masks off and repaint? Then clear?

If it does not come out right I will probably just get it redone right. Or just buy another rim. But just looking to tackle something over the winter.

what would i do? sand blast, sand everything down smooth, powdercoat.
This. Powdercoating will do a good job filling in what you have to file/sand down. It's not gonna look right if you don't. But you're still gonna have to file and sand down the rim yourself first. Flat surfaces are a PITA btw. I've had to fix curb rash several times. Lips are easy to fix, but flat surfaces are really annoying and take forever.

Wanna sell the set instead?

I do not have a sandblaster and not going to powdercoat all 4 rims for a lot more than just buying one rim.

I said DIY..I have worked with sanders and polishers for the better part of 20 years so I know how to work out scratches. Basically something to do in my basement for a weekend or two. Thats what I was thinking..I just never worked on a rim.

powdercoating is usually fairly reasonable and so is sandblasting. why repair one rim and have it look different than the rest of the set when you can do all of them at the same time?

If you take another rim to the powdercoater with you more than likely you can find a color VERY close to your factory color, and just get ONE powdercoated. When I had my OEM 18s done on my Cobalt it was only $80 per rim for sandblasting, primer, color, and clear.

I got a guy locally that will do the rim repair for 150.

And why do it myself..just curious if I can do it...thats all. Just looking to see if I could do it myself and see hwo it comes out.:)

But if I didnt do it right..then would like I said pick up a new one or just get the rim repaired for the 150.:)
