Nitto 235/55/16's

So I found these tires at Summit Racing and just wanted some opinions on them. They are a little wider than stock but thats fine with me cause the sidewall is very close to the stock 225/60/16 sidewall size so they wouldn't look weird. And I only live 10 miles from the Summit racing store here in Ohio so I'd save $50 on shipping (Looking at getting some Goodyear Eagle GT's 225/60/16's for the same price on tirerack.com). Im kinda scared to get the Eagle GT's due to the recent bad reviews Ive read. From what ive read the Nittos have good dry traction, they are great in the rain, quiet, last about 50k, V-speed rated, and they look cool to me. So does anyone have any input or reason why I shouldn't get these Nitto's? Id hate to spend $400 on garbage. So its gonna be Nitto NT450s or Goodyeard Eagle GT's. Any input is appreciated.

What reviews?

Everything I read on tirerack under pontiac was nothing but praise for the GT's.

Can't go wrong with Nitto's though.

"WORST TIRE IVE EVER HAD" My grandfather has retired from Goodyear and I liked the looks of these tires so I ordered 4, I have owned 3 sets of Goodyear tires in the past.Probably less then 6000 miles in I dont feel safe driving at highway speeds when the roads are wet. I fight the wheel half the time to keep myself in my own lane. I will never Buy Goodyear tires ever again...

^^^Thats the most recent one I found on tirerack. I think the owner of that car is a member one here. And im leaning towards the Nitto's. They are also wider so I think they will look a little better on the car.

i run the eagle gt's i was cutting 1.9 60's with them and im turbo. i have hit some puddles in the left lane on the highway doing over 60 and the car did jerk a little but nothing like this clown is saying in his review. i ran these tires for 2 years here in nyc and no complaints. personally im not a nitto fan i think they're junk. guys jump on nitto because the name has been in fast and furious and anything else commercial, kinda like royal purple.

Haha i never knew that, I only heard of them because a friend of mine was going to buy some Nitto 555r's for his Iroc (has a nasty 406 in it and traction is a big problem). And i heard most Nitto tires were pretty sticky, But a 1.9 60ft on all season street tires is pretty damn good. How many miles the the Eagle GT's last you?

if he wants a sticky tire he shouldn't be buying a 555r. mickey thompsons or hoosiers even m&h makes a nice tire for a 17inch rim. these tires have been on my car for about 20k miles. come springtime i'm going to buy a new set at 90 a tire they're pretty affordable. these are all seasons but they're more of a summer tire, they did real well in the snowstorm we had here in nyc after christmas.

He didnt end up getting the 555r's but he did mention them as well as hoosiers. He ran 12.80's on some off brand 245/50/16 street tires and a weak 3:73 10-bolt (it detonated shortly after). He still has way more tuning to do and now has a ford 9" with 4:11's and a much better cam in the car, so maybe with some hoosiers or MT's like u said he'll reach his goal for high 11's low 12's. But thanks for the info on the Eagle GT's, they sound way better than I originally gave them credit for :)

Your friend should at the very least be looking for a super sticky summer tire (PS2's) or a DOT drag radial.

Thanks for the info on the GT's.

Considering a set myself in the spring due to their awesome price.

Wider will be better for dry traction but worse for wet and snow.

The 450s are a decent tires, but the 555s(not DR) are way better all around. I run them on my GTP. Love them.

as far as your friends Iroc. 555R get a bad rep in the GP, but they hook on RWDs..
I had some for GTP and they were fine, but I too now have some QTPs and like them better..

I'll mention those Michelins to him, He's getting some 18's and tires with his tax return so those would be a nice street tire thats sticky. And my guess is he'll just get some Hoosiers for his stock 16's and toss them on for track runs.

And im still leaning towards the Nittos.

The Nitto 450s should be good enough for me, im using the stock 16's and the closest size to stock tire Nitto has was the 235/55/16's from Summit. I dont think the 555s come that size (i wish they did). Im just doing a basic 3.4 set up with headers in the next month or so, and id imagine the 450s would do ok with that.

I have Nitto NT555R's sized 245/50/16.

They hook better than my street tires but not as good as I had hoped.

245/50r16 is the closest i think

I'd do that size if my car was lowered, im just affraid it would like a 4x4 if i put them on the car now. The 235/55/16's sidewall size is only 0.2" smaller than our stock tire size sidewall and they're a little wider so im thinking it would look fine. But if i had some pregens and a 1.5"- 2" drop i'd def get 245/50/16s :th_winking:
