• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

to put into the 2005 grand prix gxp I just got. I know there's not a whole lot of aftermarket support for the car, but I was just wondering if someone could hook me up with links to a good intake/exhaust and anything else that might be reasonably affordable that I can get to increase performance on my car. I'm not a big car expert so any help would be appreciated. thanks.

well, by all means make your car sound nice and what not, but the power gains from an intake and cat back are minimal and id be surprised if you even got a seat of the pants gain. im just trying to save you effort here.

well is there anything else I can do that will be better worth my time and money in terms of power?

$45 9" open cone intake (K&N, S&B, Spectre) - remove box, slide on cone.
May as well get the most expensive headers you can find, a Borla Catback, a tune for better mileage and power... and the next thing you'd be looking for is a built transmission.

You might as well be.

Nah, little different.

K&N's intake for the GXP is good, Airraid makes a good TB spacer...I think his name on here is GXPSpectre or something and he put a LS6 intake and throttle body on his LS4...you can also delete the Displacement on Demand via a tuner, preferably a HP Tuners program...and use a bigger cam. Doug Thorley sells headers for the LS4 and you can get a downpipe with that I believe. As for the catback...that's personal perference. SLP, Corsa, Borla, Magnaflow...custom? Up to you there. Poly mounts are a good thing too...and Triple Edge Performance makes a mean race transmission...so its kinda up to you the direction you want to take that's for sure...it is just the LS4 platform is pretty limited due to lots of heat and minimal space in the engine bay.

Now, that wasn't so hard was it?

I'll deal with your attitude later if you've got the balls to come and get your rod bolts.

Please...my attitude? Your all bent out of shape LOL...and since I got you worked up...that means I win...and I didn't even have to bring a spider in on it.

HAH!

Thanks for the help. If I was only gonna spend about 2k or so though, what would you get done out of that? I'm thinking I want the headers and intake probably, but that should still leave me with some extra. I'll probably just go for the exhaust as well. Sorry, I'm just getting into this all so my knowledge of cars is very limited. How easy would it be to learn how to install all of this?

Nope...those are the Thorley headers...AND the only company that makes LS4 headers...like I said...not much aftermarket support...and what support you do have...ain't cheap. Maybe I came across as a dick earlier...but in my opinion...if you want to go fast in a nice car...get a GTO...very comfortable car, huge aftermarket, RWD, auto or manual...and can fit 4 people just as nicely as the GXP can...and headers are half the price and you can go just as fast in a 5.7 GTO as a bolt-ons GXP.

$2000 won't get you much in terms of power gains. It seems as if you want to make major power gains on the GXP you need to turbo it and that's a hell of a lot more than $2000.

Save your 2 grand for when you need a set of tires and new rotors/pads. You MIGHT be able to get all of it for about that much. :( :D

I purchased my GXP last June and I still wonder what was I thinking....because mods are so $$$$$$ on this car. First of all do you want your car to go faster on the street or on the track? Or do you just want a nicer sounding car?
some thoughts;
#1 Sound;
I have a magnaflow and I don't like it...too much drone
Some guys have electric cut outs and love it
Lots of guys have posted sound clips, so go check it out
#2 If I was limited to $2000 and I wanted track speed and some friday/saturday night action I would tighten up the transmission with a dogbone/polymount, transgo shift kit and then purchase a very simple N2O system...small shot...50 shot...

other mods;
A. headers; I think the thread said 12 whp gain it also comes with a nasty noise that guys are complaining about. Lots of $ for very little performance in my opinion
B. LS6 intake no one is making it so you will have to make it yourself, you got to know what you are doing here
C. rockers and spring kit...$1100 bucks plus install get you 18-25 whp (I have this kit and will do the install this week)
D. Hogan dp lots of guys like this install but it could/will set a code
E. Performance chip/hand held tuner; I have one and I could tell the difference but I will have to move on up to the next level this fall...professional tune...don't rec for you
F. Ported intake...I did my own install with some professional help. Opinions vary on whp...12-18/20

Whatever you decide to do....get a transmission cooler!

I hope this info is helpfull
