cai or ram air for the GXP

Very well said bio, I was simply trying to save this guy money he could use elsewhere. Would my setup be better in a box, maybe, it's all a big debate. I caught a lot of hell on my new setup on a few other GP forums. One guy even went as far as saying he guarantees that my stock airbox performs better than what I have now. There's no way in HELL the stock air box out performs what I've got, no way. I can fell the difference, when you feel the difference you've gained more than just a couple horsepower. I'd say 15hp easy!

Think your car is better or something? Only thing you've got is a better exhaust note.
Stock for stock they are a considerable amount faster on acceleration and top end(instant argument starter) and.....oh never mind lol here comes the bashing?:th_thumbsup-wink:

For my GXP, I did the K&N for a couple of reasons:

1. I work 10-12 hour a day 5 days a week, have 2 kids and just don't have time to design my own intake.

2. I make enough money that while I don't like spending $300, I can afford it if I save money for a couple of paychecks.

3. If you make it yourself, you do not get the help from K&N's lawyers if your dealer states that your intake destroyed the MAF, Cat, cam, piston's, etc. K&N's intake even has a handy 1-800 number to call if the stealership gives you hassle. I have actually used this service when a VW tech said that my K&N intake cause my cam to fail in my turbo VW, the lawyers talked to the tech and voila...warranty work with no more hassle.

4. The shield, while not blocking all heat, appears to do a fairly good job as after an hour of driving I can touch the clamp on the filter and it doesn't burn me, where as the clamp on the MAF housing does burn the hand...not one of my smarter moments.:th_shakinghead2:

5. Since there is very little support for the GXP, I have to believe that the R&D that K&N does is a little better than Joe fixit who uses PVC tubing and roof flashing to make an intake. Not banging on those that do it, more power to ya, but I am not an engineer, so I will leave the engineering to the people who know what they are doing. Just a change in materials, I think, can change the flow characteristics of the intake...but once again I am not an engineer, so that is just a guess.
well said man, i'm in the same spot right now wit my family/money. and i don't need no v6's (who cant get "fast" unless they the put a bunch of stuff in their cars). i know guys that have GT and GTP and i dont see or hear half of the BS as i do from this forum from some tuned cars talkin about stock cars, (who mind you) would destroy you V6s if we had a market to tune our V8.

I say to all those guys who can build one to go for it, but I just simply don't have the time. I will eventually put the crtuning turbo on there, but it is pretty low on the priority list right now. I love my GXP and while I don't mind constructive comments from the V6 guys, the you bought the wrong car....blah blah blah tends to get pretty old.

More often than not after I blow someone's doors off they are like "I didn't know Grand Prix's came in a V8?" or "That is a healthy sounding V6!" I prefer the sleeper cars, so I no longer have a V8 badge on my car...But, once you get on the gas it is no longer a sleeper, especially with the Magnaflow exhaust! I say, enjoy your car and make it your own and don't listen to the douche's that are like your car sucks, cause what it really comes down to in the end is that we are all driving Grand Prix's.

Whoever said that yours flow worse than stock is a moron...I like your setup, if I had seen it before the K&N, I might have paid you to build me one!!

in the next 2 months i will be getting the K&N, i was trying to find somebody who has put one and has pic of how they did it, but to no avail.

You need some pics of the install or of it on the car? I didn't take pictures of the install because it was so easy following the directions...I think it took me an hour or so, but I was drinking beer and bs'ing the whole time, so it probably took longer than it should have. If you want I can post a picture of the finished setup for you.

lol sounds like fun to me, sure post them pics up man that would be great.

I'll get the pics up this weekend, the directions are very easy to follow and if you lived near Roswell, NM I would help you install it...

it took me about.....oh wait i didnt do it my buddy did...i think it took him around 30-45 minutes and it all just pieced together.

And you can't install a CAI? I think you've got NO ROOM to start any arguments. Btw...for a V8...the LS4 is one of the worst top end 8 cylinder motors GM has produced recently...in fact I bet a stock 350 pulls almost as hard up top...the LS4's intake design is horribly restrictive

:th_shakinghead2: oh gosh hear we go again. see i know that the intake is restrictive that y i want to change it.

I wasn't directing that towards you...but it is true. The air intake and intake manifold are pretty weak designs for a 5.3 V8. Get some exhaust mods too so you can let it breathe better when you bring more air in via that K&N

oh my bad lol. i would love to put in a LS6 manifold in there but its mad expensive :( , not only for the part itself but for the parts it needs to be put in there :th_shakinghead2:.

im sure i could install an intake, but when i have a friend who knows much more about cars that is willing to do it for free, why would i risk it? and as far as the argument.....it was a joke, i dont care if my car is the biggest piece of doo in the world......its mine and i love it....lighten up man.:th_thumbsup-wink: and i did know that the intake was horrible on the car and thats why i replaced it, i got the bigger and better exhaust too...the only thing i need now is the down pipe and cat and maybe some of those headers. i just dont want to void the warranty bad enough that it cant be fixed with a quick swap.
