Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

I was almost mugged last night :(

So, I now know that a young, single, white female walking in NYC at 8:45 is a no-no. :th_nervous:

I went to a networking event in Manhattan and was walking with another girl ONE AVENUE over to get to the subway to come home. As we were walking down the street, two bums were approaching us, one holding a white plastic bag of food.

They split up as we were approaching, the guy with the food going to my left and he purposely bumped into my arm, which "caused" him to drop his food, which "spilled" out onto the pavement. My first knee-jerk reaction was to help him and give him money for the food (I even said, "Sorry), but in a split second, I heard alarms going off in my head to get out of there. I grabbed my friend and said, "Keep moving, he's full of sh*t."

We were basically running to a better-lit area and he was chasing me. He kept saying, "Miss! That was my meal! Aren't you gonna do anything about it?! Miss! Miss! MISS!" Finally he came up on my left hand side and he said, "You think I can't catch you?" And I froze. I just put my hands up in fists in front of my face and I said, "PLEASE! DON'T!" I thought he was going to grab me or my bag or something. But we just took off running and he finally left us alone.

Under any other circumstances, I would have stopped to help, but I KNEW it was a scam. He purposefully bumped into me and dumped his food out of the bag, so it looked like it was my fault. I didn't bump into him, he bumped into me and even so, the force wasn't strong enough to send his food flying out of a plastic bag AND a styrofoam container onto the pavement.

Opening your purse in front of a bum in a dark alley would have been one of the dumber things I've done in my life.

Anyway, I was really glad to get home last night. I'm still a little anxious, but I'm better today.

Everyone, be careful out there!!

Dam ****s rough out there. Glad to hear your okay. Some people, I don't understand what they do with their lives I swear..

Its a f%$#ed up world out there

even when i got out of the army id walk with a knife up my sleeve after work
and im 6'1 and at the time around 220ish

I dont trust any one Both my kids have cell phones for gps tracking and my old lady has a stun gun for when she goes to night classes

where were u in manhattan? there was nobody else around?

I was on 56th between 5th & 6th, which is for some reason really dark. I was only there, because my building used to be there, but we moved and I had to go back for something. It's a gross street for such a nice area, but I didn't think anything of it, because I've been there a million times.

It was just so crazy.

that's pretty unlucky.. you have to figure a couple people would have been around.. yeah it's definitely not safe anywhere when nobody's around. be careful, stay on long island lol

girl i applaud you for being so street smart. you handled it pretty well and im glad you realized what was going on. that could have ended alot worse. stay out of those kind of streets! or get a stone wall boyfriend...

i go everywhere with my smith and wesson 40, i almost WANT someone to try some dumb sh*t. GUNS FTW!
