Looking at some head-work, don't understand some things

copgtp

Your ClubGP Liason
So I'm looking to buy a set of ported heads off of another community member. Everything that is done to the heads I understand, except one thing, here is the quote from him:

"They were milled 0.015 which with the 0.052 headgaskets caused a decrease of 0.025 and increased the compression 0.5 to 9.0:1 on the GTP (factory 8.5:1)
(i think that math is right, i know whatever it is.. it comes out to a 9.0:1 ratio)

Of course you could always run the stock thickness or even thicker than stock gaskets to decrease the raise in compression, but it ran good with the extra bump. "

So am I going to run into any problems running this setup??? An increased compression ratio certainly going to effect some things right????

You will be fine with the increased CR. You are intercooled so i doubt it will knock. The only by product is more power :)

i would run it with stock head gaskets anyway. it just means that the bottom of the head (the side that goes towards the pistons) was milled down a little bit so there is less area in the cylinders (making a higher compression ratio).

they will work fine.

^ agreed, run stock gasket and intercooled shouldn't be an issue, unless you turbo later without a bottom end! then it will just be like a fireworks show!

What are you trying to say? If your saying the engine can't handle high boost, your incorrect. ZZP used an L36 block and took their car into low 9's if not high 8's in the 1/4 mile before they switched to an L67 block

Not a great place to use as a source... they have a history... of blowing things up.

Since you seem pretty enlightened on the subject, please show me another company or person that has as much experience as them. I can name about 8 people or so that use L26 or L36 shortblocks and run in the 11's

In no way am I doubting the strength of our shortblocks, just ZZP's overall credibility.

IRCC, that 8 second car didn't hold up too well.

Again, why does everyone always jump and say, "HAVE YOU BUILT AN 8 SECOND GP?"

The validity of a statement should not be affected by who its coming from.

Same reason someone with 21038403298324 posts shouldnt always be trusted versus someone with "only" 200.

they had a lot of money and proprietary parts being used. with that amount of money i could build a really fast car too. thats why tim king said **** it and just did it all on a firebird and went much faster for cheaper.

That 8 second car is holding up just fine..? They used the same short block over the years until just recently they switched to one of their built blocks. There is not much else that can be done with the car, so it will be street driven a lot more next year...

X2 and I recall someone saying on CGP that he had taken his son out for ice cream one day and it behaved fine on the street? I am not 100% I could be wrong but I am far to lazy to find it.
