Noisy supercharger at air intake

I noticed the area of the supercharger where the mas airflow sensor(?) is located , where the air enters the unit on the left side, makes one hell of a loud racket when the car is running but still cold.I doubt it's been serviced at all it's entire 79K mile life. If I'm gonna rebuild this car, make it look fantastic, and be safe to drive, I might as well be assured the sc is in top shape. I've seen adds on ebay for an outfit in South Jersey that has reconditioned units .I assume they have a core charge. My question is, what can I expect to pay for a "re-conditioned" unit and who does it with the best workmanship? I already got seriously "hosed" with the purchase of this rust bucket, can't afford to get a re-conditioned supercharger that is poorly done. I'm not looking for mega h.p. here, just needs to be back to original GM specs and output. Sorry if this is an OLD question that's been answered dozens of times already.

What kind of noise is it exactly? With an intake the motor gets a hell of a lot louder, especially cold.

After putting my ear closest to the inlet (as described above), it was a loud mechanical "clatter". I'll probably exchange for a reconditioned one anyway.

Does it sound like a metal shovel being dragged along a concrete driveway? If it only does it when it is cold then it is the IAC in the TB...its loud...and normal. The SLP Air Box on my mom's '03 L36 LeSabre is louder than crap at idle (and yeah...I put a SLP box on it...I know...awesome)...when it warms up...no more sound.

It only does it when cold. "IAC in the TB" :th_scratchhead: I still need to learn all the acronyms. Does sound like the shovel being dragged across a stone driveway. How do I check to see how "healthy" my supercharger is before I buy a reconditioned one?

Yeah, that racket sounds familiar. Actually, it's not the engine that sucks, it's the condition of the rockers, etc. that SUCKS! Is it common for the IAC to go bad on these engines? Any advice is appreciated.

L67 isn't a very quiet motor. Maybe get a video of it just to be sure...could be a bad coupler in the blower too

dude, i made a 4" hoomeade intake for mine and it is horribly loud, when cold only , then it warms up and is so quiet.. don't worry (sound) about it.

I get the same noise. I freaked out like you were and rebuilt my supercharger, all bearings and coupler only to find the noise is still there. I even started the car after removing the supercharger belt and its still there. Goes away after it warms up. usually in 1 or 2 minutes.

About how much to rebuild the SC? Who performed the work? And, would you recomend them? I'm thinking with almost 80K miles on my unit it's probably a good idea anyway.

Have Reptile do it...been doing blower porting for a long time...send him a PM on here...he can port it while he has it too.

It's normal. Ive heard it in a 1500 mile gtp with a filter strapped to the tb. And ive heard it on high mile 3800's as well. It goes away after a little warm up.
