I just got a GTP and I noticed this in the trunk??

nope, not worth a penny because like they said above, GM won't even offer us an on-star service on our analog equipped cars.

What do you mean by analog? And what is the other "mode" besides analog, and what are there differences?

newer vehicles than ours (not sure of the exact year, but newer than 03) came equipped with a digital on-star device. our vehicles have an analog on-star device. When digital on-star was released, GM decided to no longer support the analog version.

these things use the cell phone network so when the analog cell phone network was pretty much banned from use GM couldn't use their analog onstar devices and upgraded them all to the digital versions.

So thank the FCC for that useless POS known as your onstar box.

You can rip it out, nothing will change cept a small weight reduction and some more less than useful trunk space.
