Ruff Idle

Okay, Been searching and couldn't find anything to answer my question. I changed my plugs around 35,000 because I had 2 misfires and pulled them and they look gawd awful! I didn't change my wires or coils. I now have 51K. Okay, here is the problem! Even after I changed my plugs I noticed SOMETIMES only SOMETIMES when I start my car and it idles down it almost sounds like its about to die and sputters. It hasent died but sounds as if its going to. It has done it when its hot and it has done it when its cold.I notice when I first start it up no matter how hot or cold it idles around 2000-1500 then idles down to under 1,000 between 1,000-500. Iv thrown one misfire code about a month ago after I went to the track and my buddy scanned it and it was a fuel cut/misfire almost not really for sure what the "true term" was. He re-set it and told me if it threw again take it in. It hasent happen since then. I always run 93 and I know there is a recall for my year model about the fuel system but my car is fine. Could it be time for wires and maybe to change my coil pack? I have never changed a coil pack is it easy? Anyways!! Hope you guys can help me out!! Thanks a bunch!

do u prime the fuel pump. like do u turn the key to when ur dash lights light up and u hear kinda like a wine. well thats the fuel pump wait till you don't hear that then start it

HIGHLY doubt it's a coilback. The stock ones are pretty reliable. Quick way to check for a misfire is listen to the exhaust note. Should be a constant "groan" if there's any pauses then there's an issue with spark. Always good to replace wires with the plugs just because removing them from the plugs can seperate the connector causing the wire to not get a signal to the plug

No I just start the car right up. Also thats the thing im gettting...My exhaust sounds normal then like almost cuts out as if the car is about to die like im not getting fuel. The car kinda jerks a little not to bad but then catches and it fine. But whats throwing me off is...It don't do it ALL the time..There is nothing I do that can MAKE it do it. And its not throwing any codes! Its like once in a great while its doing it.

Do the 04's and newer have an IAC? I dont know if anyone knows this or not. From what I have seen(which is just from some online pics) it looks like if there is one, it is built into the electronic throttle control. Can anyone shed some more light on if it has it or where it is or if this is completely false...

Was told should have one but its inside the TB..lol no wonder we couldnt find it! lol

Ya, Mike know one seems to know. Its just sooo strange how there is nothing that sets it off..it don't do it at a certain time as in when the car is hot/cold. Thats why im not sure what it is! I know it won't hurt to change my wires...but if it was them you would think I would have it happen more often then only 1-2 times a month. The car has only threw 2 codes in the whole year I have had it! It has NEVER thrown a code when it happens. But its like my car idles sooo low its going to die and then something catches and it goes back up and it fine. Even the exhaust sound goes from normal to a sputter. Its soo freakin strange!!

Unless you were rough on the wires, I'd doubt it's them. Wires and coils can be tested relatively easy. Lift the hood at night and start the car. Mist the wires/coils and look for the light show. No sparks is a good sign. While it's wet, any sudden changes in running would usually show a wire/coil issue.

Might be time to clean the TB. A little gunk can cause a motorized throttle plate to have issues idling, since likely that's how the IAC function is controlled.

Do you have any tips on how to clean the TB and im thinking my IAC is inside my TB. Do you know? Thanks!

Take off your air intake, insert garden hose and turn on.
Just kidding. You should take it off of your vehicle and use some delicate and sensor safe cleaner like MAF sensor cleaner. It is just so weird because it does it intermittently and not very often at all.

Well...I dont have a water hose..Pressure washer work? And like Dawn detergent or would you suggest like bleach?

yeah a pressure washer should work. Do you have a stronger cleaner....like some sort of acid? or something that is corrosive to metals? I would do that for best results.

So something like muriatic acid that would prolly take care of it right?

I would use the white finer sand, but I am not sure how regular sand would work. I would give it a try and see what happens

dont forget to use garlock gaskets to reseal everything when you put everything else back on when you are done. That is what bio told me, that they are the best
