Turbo set up question

IMO its not worth it to twincharge unless your running a larger turbo. You also will need over $2 grand in intercooling/heat exchangers for both, and not much room to fit everything.

That would be me! :th_thumbsup-wink:

I have a Stattama kit from zzp. I am running a T72 turbo with the supercharger (3.4 pulley on the s/c right now). The supercharger will give power off the line up to about 6psi, and then it will bypass and the turbo takes over. For the street, this is a nice setup. I am limited to 15psi right now because I am still in the process of installing a second W/A intercooler. After that gets done, I hope to push closer to 20psi. Still, at 15psi and 15 degrees of timing, this thing moves. I ran the 12.69 with stock heads, stock cam, and stock trans. I have since upgraded the trans to 3.29 with 1" chain, but haven't made it back to the track.

There are a few other people running twin-charged as well. The real advantage to twin-charge is that you can run a bigger turbo like a 70 or 72, and not have lag.

Here's a pic of my setup right after I installed: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b230/rcarboni/2000 Regal GS/Turbo/TwinCharged.jpg

Looks sweet. I wanted to keep the s/c til the turbo spooled up. but is it worth it(money wise) or would it jus be better to dump the s/c and jus go with the turbo?

Im doing one of my phenolic intercoolers for the cooling part, and will have the rear mount turbo come and plumb into the ported s/c. This will be plenty sufficient cooling wise for me as the rear mount turbo runs cooler and the piping is already 50% cooling efficiency. I think its gonna be pretty sweet.

BlackGS.... did you have to upgrade your injectors or anything for 15psi?

If you run with a smaller turbo like a 61 or 66, you won't need the supercharger to help it spool. There is very little lag with these turbos, and they are easily going to get you 400whp if setup right.

I was already running 65lb injectors long before I put the turbo on. I just happened to get a good deal on them a few years back.

15psi is going to require at least the 42.5lb injectors, and preferably 65's. I have seen a max of 75% duty cycles on the 65's at 15psi, but that was running very rich in the mid 10's AFR.

whats the max boost that the 66 can push? Because my goal is to get into the mid-low 10's within a year or 2. Would the z7 kit work or would I be better off with the stattama kit.

skip a twin charged setup and go straight to big turbo setup. thats the only way youre going 10s in this car. even then youre pushing your luck. 10s is REALLY fast for us.

Big turbo + nitrous to help spool it :D

Really, though, for 10s, twin charging with a big turbo is probably your best bet, if you can get it all tuned.

Talk to Matt or Zooomer at zzp for info on twin-charging vs. single turbo. I think Zooomer went high 9's or low 10's in the twin-charged GTP, and they had the Impala that went low 10's with just a T67. Either way, you can make 10's at the track with the right cam, tuning, etc., if you can launch!

Yea I was looking into either ZZ or Intense. but idk who would be better.
