3800 Performance PCM

So everyone on here that thinks that they don't get a DHP PCM from them can now rest...and I say 3800 Performance FTW from now on unless something changes.

Here is the e-mail I sent them

To Whom it may concern:

There have been many discussions about your PCM's and where they come from as a couple GPF members even say that they get return labels to ZZ Performance meaning that they are ZZ Performance PCM's (which are horrible in my opinion as I lost a motor to one of them). I am trying to get down and figure out are you guys just selling bin files based on a ZZ Performance PCM Tune or are you still using the genuine Digital Horsepower Version 1.0 PCM bin file? I recommended them as I loved my DHP V1.0 I had two years ago when they were still selling them through PFYC.com and that is who I had ended up getting mine through. They no longer sell them and they say that you are the only vendor left that sells their PCM's. Any insight behind this year long debate would be great.

Are PCM's are NOT made by ZZP. Are PCM's are done locally and in house by DHP!

DHP is the best off the shelf PCM out there. i loved mine when i was n/a. real good kick in the pants and it ran really well compared to stock.

no..........zzp sells zzp tunes..........in the past it has been questioned if 3800 was selling zzp tunes as people who ordered from there(3800) got a pcm with a zzp label on it. 3800 just said that they have DHP PCM program NOT ZZP...

Doh... I should have read closer. Makes 100% sense now.

"Developed with the average 3800 enthusiast in mind, this calibration has been designed and dynamometer tested and proven for the following vehicle modifications installed:
- 3.4” - 3.20” pulley
- Cold air induction system (brand not applicable)
- Cat-back exhaust system (brand not applicable)
- Premium fuel (91+ octane)"

So what if I plan on a 3.5" pulley, and don't have a cat-back system? I will have a PLOG, and a 3" DP. I do also have ready access to 91 Octane, but not anything higher than that currently...

Those are the old parameters people used to follow back in the day. We know better know so just follow the modding guidelines of today and don't worry about it...the PCM will work just fine.

from what I have seen the DHP tune is the safest as well as far as an off the shelf tune.... I am looking for good gains, but a safe tune is more important to me. I would rather have reliability and lose 10hp vs. getting the absolute most out of my car. Has anyone had any issues with a DHP tune at all?

Just drive here and i will throw a DHP 1.0 pcm on with a few changes on for free. The only reason why DHP pcm's are so successful is because they offer the least changes over a stock pcm, once you throw a 3.4 pcm on and then tune, the least bit, you are going to be happy.

No...but it is meant for a bolt-ons car...so IMO...get a 180* T-Stat and at least a 3" Downpipe and FWI before installing it...but that's just me.

Hey, I start a new job on the 24th which will put me in Cedar Rapids for a month before traveling across the country for 6 months.

My parents live in East Dubuque, so maybe some time after the Labor Day holiday, I'll make the 90 minute trek to Dubuque some evening after work and see if we can do a minor "tune" like you said, and then I'll get a free meal later at my parent's house before driving back to C.R.

I'll send you a PM some time once I get some details ironed out at the new job.

My only Mods right now are a CAI, I think I am gona go ahead and get a SLP Powerflo Cat Back real soon. But I would like to know what would be the best way to PCM tune this car in case I add more mods in the future. So far I've only heard that Series III's up to 2005 are tunable. Any of you have clear cut advice on this.

Start your own thread with this as the topic and you will have a much better chance of getting your question answered. I personnally dont know much of the 04+'s as far as tuning............

Well they do a little, but yeah, as far as bang for your buck its not worth it...

You need a 05 pcm, and there are a few minor things that happen when you switch the pcm, like the gas guage reads reverse... but after you get an 05 pcm, you may tune it.

That is awesome to hear I wanted to get a PCM in a couple weeks and kept reading the old threads I will check out 3800's PCM now.
