Installing Headers

holy f*** i tried today... got the crossover out, broke the two bolts on the rear of it... couldnt get my plug wires out. f*** it, cant do it. now im driving around with an big exhaust leak from the crossover until my mechanic can take it on monday to install the headers. it was too much for me to do... i didnt realize until i actually started getting into it. im pissed:th_sign-oops:

No worries, getting them out is the hardest part, those crossover bolts are guaranteed to break. You wont be using them anyways so no biggie :th_winking:

yea i know... but it just made me realize how much other stuff was most likely gonna go wrong and that im not equipped to handle it when it does... so i set up an appointment with my mechanic for monday, he's always done good work on my cars so hes gonna do them for me. im not really too good with doing big jobs on my car i guess. i know i can do other things fine but that was too much for me. oh well i guess, now ill just have to deal with my exhaust sounding ****ty until monday :th_shakinghead2:

lolz yeah i remember when i had to drive to the hardware store and get a temporary crossover bolt because mine broke, the car was retarded loud, smelled like a race car, and stupid :p

is having exhaust gas from the leaky crossover going into the engine bay really bad for the car? or will i get by until monday?
haha i tried putting some aluminum tape on it to direct the smoke more downwards hopefully...

Well...try not to drive it as much as you can and don't really beat on it...the o2's are all screwed up and it is messing with your trims...other than that nothing really.

ok thanks...im babying the car. im only driving to school and work, which are a max of 10 minutes from my house.

Idk if this helps but you can get Grade-8 bolts for the headers at Ace hardware. They worked great for mine. Also make sure you use Metal gaskets instead of those paper ones.

I did the same thing for all four bolts. No more breaking them, and if they do break then I'll just use the spares I got.

oh thats good, but my only problem is that the rest of the bolts are stuck in there and i have nothing i can remove them with

Rusted on? Sometimes my pops takes a blow-torch to bolts that wont come loose. That loosens them up a bit so they'll come out.

Been there done that. If half of the shaft is still in tack a Plumber's torch, lots of penetrating oil, and a good pair of vise grips is the answer. If not then lots of drilling, blood, sweat, and tears works too :th_thumbsup-wink:

Soak them with PB Blaster or Penetro 90 for a few minutes, then if you have one heat the bolt with a torch and try tapping it out. If you don't have a torch then just soak the bolt and use a punch and hammer to tap the bolt out.

As for the plug wires, try rotating them back and forth while pulling up on them instead of pulling straight off. It's much easier that way.

what is the size and Lenth of the bolts needed to replace the stock one I would like to buy them beforeI start so I will have them
