Installing Headers

oh wow you must have gotten lucky. im gonna soak them all up the night before and then put on more when i do it. then im gonna put threadlocer on the bolts when i install them to make sure nothing comes loose

I wouldn't use thread locker unless you plan on using a torch to get them back off again. Just tighten them from the center, outside and back and forth until they are all tight. Just take your time and should be fine. You can go back a couple days later and re-tighten them if you want.

agreed, no need to put thread locker on them. The bolts are constantly getting hot and expanding anyway...just don't break a bolt

oh alright i see. well tomorrow will be the day this all gets done... im hoping all goes smoothly but usually thats never the way it works out of course!

ill come by and lend a hand. you got a jack and chit? bring some long island girls too

wow nick just saw your post haha sorry... if you would want to that would be great. but isn't that like mad far for you? im all the way out at exit 62 on the LIE

i got the headers today? what the hell... they dont even give you new manifold gaskets??? will i be able to reuse the old ones? or worst comes to worst think pep boys would have them in stock?

Stock ones should be reusable, but Autozone, Advance, etc has the Felpro kind. It didn't say gaskets were included so when I built out my cart to see the costs I added a set.

yea i shouldve done that. might just buy a set tomorrow. and also which header should i put on first? front or back?

alright sweet i think ive got all my info together now guys... thanks for all the help... ill let you know how the install goes tomorrow!!! doing it right when i get home from school

Just re-use stock gaskets. I had felpros sitting around for my header install and looked at them both and just used stock gaskets. When I went to do my turbo install, again I checked the stock ones and had felpros sitting by and reused the stock ones again.

The felpros are alright to use, but are a mothe****in ***** to clean off, i would go with stockers if their not cracked or blown.

i would come by but i gotta work, if you we're doing on the weekend i would def came

yea man unfortunately tomorrow and thursday are my only days off... but thanks for offering. i think it will all go well, the only bad thing is gonna be getting all the crap out of the way i think. other than that i think the install itself will be relatively simple

the only pita is trying to get the rear manifold out of the bay, your going to have to play around tilting the motor a few times. You might want to start un-bolting the dp first, that would make it easier to maneuver that rear manifold out.

yea my plan is to do these steps with removing the exhaust pieces themselves:

1) remove crossover
2) remove front manifold
3) remove downpipe
4) remove rear manifold

Only thing I say is work smarter not harder...get rid of the front manny first, and work your way around... ;)

holy f*** i tried today... got the crossover out, broke the two bolts on the rear of it... couldnt get my plug wires out. f*** it, cant do it. now im driving around with an big exhaust leak from the crossover until my mechanic can take it on monday to install the headers. it was too much for me to do... i didnt realize until i actually started getting into it. im pissed:th_sign-oops:
