OFFICIAL: Pontiac is Dead as of now.

The Blue One
Pontiac Is Dead

Read it and weep. Everyone here now owns a part of history. After 83 years GM doesn't think it will get any better so as of next Monday, part of their "faster, deeper" reorganization plan...Pontiac is on the list along with Saab and Hummer to be X'ed.

Sad day for sure.

Maybe if GM wasent stupid they wouldnt be where they are! Why in gods name make two of the SAME car/truck and just put a different name on it?!?! You have the Cobalt=G5,Bonneville SSiE=Pontiac GTP, Canyon=Coloroda, Serria=Silverado the list goes on and on!!!DONT MAKE SINCE!!!! Never understood why they did that!!!

calm down you guys i know it looks bad i dont want that to happen but the Detroit Free Press is saying its might not be happening and if anything next Monday they will announce the idea of sheding Pontiac, The Free Press has been pretty on when it comes to these things lately so its just a waiting game

i dont understand... why pontiac. why not like gmc or cadillac... theres 2 companies that aint worth s*** if you ask me.

I agree they do sell a lot of cars, but I see SOO many GP on the road, they are a well balanced car you don't have to pay an arm and a leg for. I am wondering what is going to happen with all these car dealers after they close all there Hummer, Pontiac, Saab, Saturn, and god knows what else down the road?

saab and saturn? who owns one of those? hummer, yeah..useless, but at least i see a bunch on the road. pontiac isnt exactly useless, but chevy can pick up their slack without much effort.

as far as cadillac goes. every old person on the planet wants a cadillac. so do all the...cultured people...

GMC sells a ton of trucks in their fleet vehicles and stuff like that. they make HUGE money in that market.

I like how the titles says "Official" when it isn't official until GM releases it in a press release. Lol.

Anyone saying that other brands like GMC or Cadillac should be axed either doesn't understand what part the brands play and how many cars they sell or they have emotional attachment to Pontiac. Or both.

Cadillac is a luxury line and fulfills that market. They sell a lot of cars for it too. GMC is a luxury truck line and also makes higher end HD trucks. They complete Buick with a truck line. Buick could be considered an in between from Chevy and Cadillac known as an entry luxury.

Most likely, Pontiac's really good cars will be absorbed into Chevy (G8 and Solstice). Look at it, and what is Pontiac any more? A rebadged Chevy Aveo, a rebadged Chevy Cobalt, a rebadged Holden Commodore, and the Solstice. Pontiac is directly competing with a brand that is integral to GM (Chevy) and is best if it's left behind.

I'm still in favor of keeping it as a niche brand (G8 and Solstice only) and selling them along side Chevy at their dealerships. Kinda like what Scion is to Toyota. Just a few different vehicles from their normal lineup.

Just wait for the press conference and we'll see what happens.

but I see SOO many GP on the road, they are a well balanced car you don't have to pay an arm and a leg for.

Well, they don't make GPs anymore so I don't see how that affects it. I might have bought a GP if I didn't know that an Impala or Monte are pretty much the exact same car with better interiors (and better exteriors, but that's just opinion).
