ls1-lt1 question/ending to my gp.

well as some people saw my gp was totaled. well the insurance guy showed me his value on it. and it's at 4.8k. and he said i would most likely get it tues.... so im looking on what i can get somewhere near my house (harpers ferry, wv) and so far i found a stock 94 z28 on craigs list for 2500. seems like a good deal. kinda high millage but what 94 doesn't. well was wondering what the difference between an lt1 and ls1? this is an lt1.
dont know anything about these motors. all i hear about is "LS1!!" is there a HUGE difference? i looked in a summit book and saw parts for both motors? figured after if i got the car i'd have a little under 2k to sink into it. sadly it's an auto. but to be honest the next closest price i found was a 6 speed formula for 4k. not spending that much extra. had fun with the gp which was an auto.. SO... come on car knowing people help a poor guy out with info. lol

ls1's are aluminum blocks and are faster than an lt1. i had a 93 lt1 t/a and it was fast as hell, they are corvette motors

hmm. so think it'd be worth it? if i did get it i'd get headers and intake. not sure what else to get after that, for th ebest bang for the buck. didnt call the guy today because im waiting to see if this guy emails me about this celica. yes i know rice... but if its like what he described it should be crazy fast

Psssh. Lt1's are nothing to brag about. I ran a cammed one at the local track and that thing was just a high 13's car. Stock most of them ran 14's...

I'm no Corvette guy but I thought the 'Vette's of that Gen (4?) where LT5's?

IMO, LT1's are junk. Optispark blows ass and you can pown the piss out of a LT1 with a LS1 like no ones business. That is just what I think so if anyone hates me I don't care :p

Skip the LT1, you'll be MUCH happier finding a LSx powerplant...why not buy a 80's something Mazda RX platform and putting a LS1 in it? Faster than shizz:th_laugh-lol3:

Actually bluegtp ur right dude. My cousin had a 94 z28 withthe lt1. It had headers and intake and for whatever reason he gutted the inside and the best he could muster was a 13.7. But I had a buddy at work that bought a 2000 transam with an ls1 and completely stock ran a 13.2. With a little work an ls1 would be in the twelves no prob

Everyone is ALWAYS going to have there own opinion! I know a guy who has a LT1 TA and he has alot done to it and its gutted out and he is running high to middle 6's (1/8). Some people like the LT1 and some don't. Some things I do know about the "difference" is the LS1 is a 5.7L the LT1 is 5.7 but its actually a FULL 350 cubic in, the LS1 is not a FULL 350cubic in. BUT the ls1 is all aluminum. I do know that the Fbody LT1 has aluminum heads.

LT1 is best being left to the scrap yard. the money poured to make that thing fast is a waste. if you want a F body LS is the way to go, i dont know your budget but you can look for a 2000 and newer and it will have the LS6 intake manifold on it. 94 is already 15 years old, optispark??? no thank you.

ls1 is by far a stronger platform. better flowing heads, intake, everything. the optisparks do suck on the lt1's and ive keep up with a few 6 speed lt1's myself when i just had intake.

i think a full bolt on lt1 would be a good race with a stock ls1.

buy an ls1 motor and put it in something. you will not regret it.

well i have 5k to get something really soon. i have no car at the moment and supposed to get the check tuesday. my problem is i cant find anything kinda close to where i live except a couple lt1's and a mid to late late 90's mustang gt. and i dont really like mustangs. and from what i know you gotta sink a good bit of money into them. and if i could do the motor swapping i'd get a fiero and buy back my car and swap that. i considered it.... but i just dont have the knowledge to do all that. plus i gotta get something pretty soon

I'd stay away from the LT1, go LSX if anything. There are 98 and 99 Z28s LS1s around here I see now and then bring $6,000-$7,000 with under 100k on them (80 or so give or take). Thats what i'd look out for if I were you.

Another fun platform with lots of potential are around 88-93 Fox Body Stangs w/ the 5.0. Alot of potential there, you can find decently clean ones around here for $3,000-$4,000, not bad and they have ALOT of potential, the mods are endless for that platform. I actully passed up a clean 89 GT awhile box, maroon w/ maroon interior, very good shape ever with 150,000 miles, it was bone stock right down to the exhaust. I shouldn't of passed that up. Whom ever scored that car got a hellova deal....

Well I tell ya my cousin bought that lt1 camaro for like 4500 back in 03 so I bet u could find a good example for cheap. It may not be an ls1 but good none the less. I've never owned a camaro or the likes but I know there good runners. Look into other things too like monte carlos and el caminos. I've been through a 68 el camino with a 383 stroker, a 91 transam with a 350 and now I got a 91 s10 with a smallblock in it. U can find lots for 2 to 5 grand

i was looking for s10's with v8's but i could only find one near me and it didnt seem to be to reliable. i need to not be broken down a lot. when i was little thats what i always wanted. just to many for sale at least around me

the fox body 5.0's is a good option too. 89-93 have forged internals and you can spray the crap out of them. there also pretty light. basic bolts dont net you to much, but if you swap out some heads and a cam, there pretty mean.

Well a smallblock s10 can be great but they can also suck if they weren't done right. Mine was fone pretty decent. But ure right about reliability. And they aren't exactly the best everyday drivers. At least mines not.

every other car around here is a older style stang. most near me aren't that great. beat all but one in the gtp. and i will basically only be able to install bolt on's. what about the mid 90's ones? what all can you do to them withing the like 1.5k area? headers, catback, intake that about it?

the modular motor kinda suck. all you could do with them is bolt-ons mainly. the 5.0 would be a better pick to mod down the road. the stock heads on the 5.0s suck and stock they only make 220 hp to the crank. im sure with some bolt-ons and gears tho you could do 13's pretty easily. if my brother ever installs his edelbrock high rpm intake manifold ill let you know how much of a differece it makes, but most of the time you dont really see any real gains till you swap heads.

you can find some decently moded ones in the 5k range. parts are dirt cheap for them too. i would look into it.

i just did. and its crazy in my area. they are either WAYYYY done up and outta my range and then there completly stock ones.

If you're gonna do a 5.0, to make any kinda power you'll need heads and cam right off the bat, thats where they net the most power. Bolt on ones generally don't run that great.
