Offset and Backspacing?

Could somebody please quickly define what these mean on a rim? Thanks!

here, ill copy what i wrote in the chat window:

offset is backspacing. the lower the offset, the closer the wheel will be to the edge of the fender. the lowest you can go without rubbing issues is ~28mm ish. a good offset for our cars is in the +40mm range.

nah, wouldnt say that. just have read enough and had enough wheel experience.
