Heres the situation, I have a 97 white grand prix gt. For whatever reason, it has stock painted white rims in the regular (5 spoked star pattern). Anywho, i have a set of the cross lace style. My idea is to paint the cross laced part black w/many coats of clear to help prevent chips. I plan on leaving the lip polished aluminum. What do you guys think? stupid? worth a try? I'm thinking it might compliment my window tint as well as my taillights after i black them out. I also would like to paint the lower bumpers black also. I'm trying to go with a black and white theme and keep it simple. Let me know what you guys think. I might begin this weekend if i think its going to look decent. I'll post some pics when i finish

it looks alright, but it still looks crappy because it is a crosslace wheel. if you like it then go for it, but i would recommend new wheels over that.

It'll look goofy if you have a black and white theme then do polished alum. on the wheel. Do the lip in the same black that you use on the front and rear bumpers and you got a winning idea. :th_winking:

i have two of the cross laces finished already and it doesn't look too bad just holding it next to my car. depending on the finished product, i'll probably try to sell the white rims. i know there isn't a high demand for white colored wheels, so yes probably sell them and use the cash for a downpipe and towards a cai. Dont get me wrong, i love the look of my current wheels on my white gp, its just time for a change. And for everyone who says white rims are hard to keep clean, its no harder to keep them clean as it is to keep a white car clean haha. ahh well, i love white cars

Nice job on the painting, it'll look good. If it was me, I would have considered painting the 5-spokers black. Never figured out why mfrs think white cars need white wheels....Ford did it to white SHOs and Chrysler did it with white Lebaron GTs.

Mechanic friend of mine has a "triple white" LeBaron GT....white car, white wheels, white convertible top and white upholstery. We call it the Barbie Car, only thing that save it is the 5-speed stick....

i dont like black on black anymore. i like chrome on black. i like black wheels on other colors like dark green metallic, redfire, midnight blue metallic, white, silver, etc.

i like contrast.

I painted two sets of factory rims like this, the "honeycomb" style that you are doing now except they were on a black turbo 3.1 beretta and another set of 5 stars on my white 4x4 92 blazer, both had polished lips. It looks good IMO, go with it.

Cheap cosmetics make for more go fast parts.

yea true but i just want to do it for winter rims ya know plus i got the 20" chromed out:D!

what do you guys think about that center cap? I found out that they feel much like plastic but after some sanding and polishing, they are polished aluminum underneath the abs stickers. should i paint those black too or shine them up? It would go, polished center cap >> black rim >> polished lip.

heck, if you guys think it would look better, i could take the white rims off and paint them black if that would look even better. unless one of you guys are interested in buying the whities :th_thumbsup-wink: basically anything goes with what i'm trying to do here. all i know is; i'm sick of whats on it.

dont ruin the white rims im sure there is someone out there that would love to have them on there car. they are hard to find. i would polish the center caps and paint the wheels a gloss black and a polished lip would look good
