Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - So close to making noise...

Does that cluster have a tach? If not you should definitely swap it out for one that does.

It doesn't. I'll probably just run a discreet little tach on the column. Already ran the wire from the PCM. Got a 3 hole pillar pod on order. Aeroforce, wideband, and.... another wideband? Or....

Takes longer than you think to pump up oil on a motor that was apart. Say 2 minutes of cranking on/off for about 15 second intervals. Starter turns it much slower

Yeah. I though about pulling the plugs too, but I took one look and said no thanks.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Making noise!

it probably the vid, but i thought it would be much louder. congrats. now go pick up that rear end. :th_thumb-up:

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Making noise!

WOW !! That must be soooo satisfying. Sounds nice and beastly like it should. Great job and I love how your drain pan went for a ride...lol. Can't wait to see it in action.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Making noise!

you need better speakers Scott, that things sounded great on my setup.

you don't need 2 widebands, you can run a dual sensor wideband setup if you get the right kit. if it was me, I would just tape in some nice looking cardboard until you decide what gauge to put in so you don't have to look at an empty hole.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Making noise!

now finish driveline and post vid tearing the **** out of those pizza cutters.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Making noise!

Eh, two widebands is kind of pointless. You will still have o2 sensors to show you if one bank is worse than the other.

The drivers side tends to be the one that runs leaner if it does at all and that is where you should install the wideband.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - So close to making noise...

Badass! Muffle the bejeepers out of it, heh heh. Nobody will suspect you. Might be fun to have a launch control box of some sort to play with once its ironed out. That way if you just want to freak out another S10 or whatever by going whOOSH with no burnout, you could. Maybe. Wires might as well be pasta to me. Good going, Brandon. Neat work so far.

I was surprised. It's actually not terribly obnoxious at idle. You could probably carry on a conversation at a barely elevated volume. Once you crack that throttle though... She sings!

Thanks! Yeah. It's a huge relief to know that it runs and I didn't screw up anything major in the harness. Uh... That drain pan... I was smart enough to know I would need a pan, not smart enough to know it would blow away. :th_doh:

Sounds real good in headphones. I was just thinking two widebands cause I have two widebands on the shelf. Probably would look dumb. I just hate having empty gauge holes. I'll figure something out.

Very nice. I love seeing the progress. Keeps me motivated to get my build started. Congrats man!

Thank you! The payoff should definitely be worth the effort.

Dude! Let me at least enjoy this milestone before you start crackin the whip!

Eh, two widebands is kind of pointless. You will still have o2 sensors to show you if one bank is worse than the other.

Probably. I'm just trying to decide what the next most important gauge would be...

I did not know that. I will keep that in the back of my mind when I talk to the exhaust guy.

Badass! Muffle the bejeepers out of it, heh heh. Nobody will suspect you.

You know... I'm still not sure what I want to do. I love the sound of a healthy V8. In a crowd, is anybody going to suspect the fleet S10 anyway? Haha! I have a set of 2-1/2" Summit Flowmaster 40 series knock offs just sitting on a shelf. Those sound decent.

Might be fun to have a launch control box of some sort to play with once its ironed out. That way if you just want to freak out another S10 or whatever by going whOOSH with no burnout, you could. Maybe.

Maybe. Just foot brake for now. Definately a line lock in the future for maximum tire carnage.

Wires might as well be pasta to me. Good going, Brandon. Neat work so far.

Thank you sir! Something I'm proud of, for sure.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Making noise!

I may have forgot if you mentioned it previously, but does that parts runner have enough "Whoa" for all the "Giddyup" it has now? I.E. brake upgrade? I imagine a 97 still has rear drum, no?

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Making noise!

some how im sure you could figure out a trans brake for it

I found this awhile back:

https://sites.google.com/site/sloppywiki/everything-ls/4l80esloppytransbrake

Seems like a viable option. Sure would be cheap enough to try.

Definitely NOT! Haha! I'm going to have to drive it not like a complete idiot until I get something figured out. There's a couple options for upgrades, but nothing as simple and cheap as the F-bodys for the Grand Prix. Some of the Bravadas came with 2 piston calipers, but that involves swapping the spindle (knuckle?) as well I guess. A brake upgrade is something I plan on in the future, for sure.

Correct. The factory S10 rear is a drum setup. However, the Explorer 8.8 going in is a disk setup. So that will help a little.

Hey brandon, a trans temp gauge would be pretty cool. factory matched too.... http://www.autometer.com/2-1-16-trans-temp-100-250-f-sse-chevy-factory.html

That would be cool. See, that's the trouble I'm having though. With one of my gauges being an Aeroforce, there's not much that isn't already covered. Trans pressure might be cool.

shoulda been finished up already

You cut deep Bill. So, what exactly have you been working on.....? [crickets] :th_tongue2:

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Making noise!

Drum swap to disc in rear will require some finagaling @ the master, I.E. proportioning valve?

From what I read, the electronic ABS module is supposed to handle that. I have been pretty lucky so far with things just working out. Would be nice if that did too.

I've been working on some important stuff
http://www.grandprixforums.net/threads/104393-Brewin-Up-Some-Beer?highlight=brewing

And fixing the snowblower (bent auger shaft and needed a new belt)

Helping buddies clean out their driveway etc. Always plenty to do as you know. hahahahha

Yup. I get it. For me it's 50-55hrs / week at work, kids, house stuff... Like you've said before, when you're the guy that knows how to do stuff, you stay busy.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Making noise!

Started building the block for the fans

And I changed the tune for dual electric fans. Then tested the PCM function using the VCM scanner. Having HPtuners as a "tool" makes things a lot easier.

Re: Project LQ4 - V8 S10 - Making noise!

Snagged this thing off Craigslist the other day.

IMAG1083_zps3ra7fpgp.jpg

Guy was asking $450 "firm". Of course I had to ask if there was any wiggle room on that price. He said because I had a Roadkill shirt on, he'd go to $400 even. Moral of the story: My $25 shirt saved me $50! Dude was really cool. Stood and talked with him for almost an hour.

It came with straps and lights. Did not come with hitch pin...
