Looking to get a 95 GTP

Hey guys. I'm new and all only because I was looking for advice on this car and you guys are the experts. I currently have a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant that I may get rid of because I'm always fixing things on it and it's one expensive repair after another. Anyway, I found this GTP and was wondering your opinions.

I always loved these cars as a kid and I'm looking to step up in power and performance from my 4 cyl Galant. I spoke to this guy a lot about it. He said the paint on the fender flares is a little faded under the dip since I probably would take the dip off since it's a weird pattern on the car, he drives it fairly often, he just seafoamed it which I like doing at times, he recently replaced the alternator and the timing belt and water pump were replaced about 5k miles ago.

Again I just want to see your opinions on it and if there's anything else I should ask him. I haven't seen the car yet and was supposed to go this past Saturday but now I can't until next Saturday.

id be looking for a 98 and newer gtp or regal gs or other w body. could be found for about the same price in better shape with more modding options to be had.

I agree with Scott. If you think the Galant is expensive to repair, just wait until something on the LQ1 goes bad. $600 to change an alternator. $1000 to fix the leaky output shaft seal. $1200 for timing belt.
Check the rocker panels and rear strut towers for rust.

for 1400 id rock it. especially if the timing belt has been done already. i had one of these in hs and that engine is fun with a nice power band with the 3.4

yes they are harder to work on but id suggest learning to do the work yourself.

i had a 180 amp alt in mine i rebuild with the stock alt case just a higher amp stator.

the alt isnt hard to do but need to take passenger side wheel and cv shaft out to get at it s8nce its on the bottom of the engine.

ps slicks prices are absurd this isnt a mercedes or bmw..... lol

No that is what a shop would quote you to do those repairs. Doing them yourself won't be anywhere near that expensive.
The LQ1 isn't that bad of an engine its got a nice power band and is really fun with a 5 speed behind it instead of the 4t60. The engine is just over complicated for what it is is all. I know the trick to fixing the output shaft seal as well. Back the bolt out enough the put a the new gasket split in half under the head with some red rvt on both sides of it, then put the bolt back in, leak fixed.

I would go for it. Yeah, you could get a 97-03 GTP and have more mod potential, but you see those all the time. Choose the less boring option, plus, easer to put in a manual later on.

It is not any easier to put in a manual in a 95 GTP than it is to put one in a 97-03.

slick show me where a repair manual says 600 for an alt are you including parts? show me a mac shart how many hours i call bullsh1t.

ive owned one. then belt is a whore yes but so is a belt on any dohc engine.

over complicated? no sh1t arent all dohc engines? shhhhh dont tell any ford people that........ lol

still 1400 for a 77k mile car with the timing belt already done is fair price to me.

where 6 hours lol even a derp can do it in less i have........

point proven a derp can do it in less lmfao!
Yes but a shop will always charge you the flat labor rate no matter what.
You are misunderstanding what I am saying. A normal Joe could have it done in a couple hours in his driveway. But at SHOP they will charge you 6 hours of labor plus the ~$200 for the alternator. Now you smell what I am stepping it? In my years of research I even came across a thread on one of the 60*v6 forums about some guy who took his car in to get something fixed and they wouldn't even work on it because it had the LQ1 in it.

I forget where it was but some dude had listed all the stuff on one of the 60*v6 forums years ago. This was based off of what he was quoted by a shop to do the repairs.

lol your honor i rest my case i have nothing more on this......

but this one time on the internet......... seriously wtf!

slick you should know better.

Other members had posted on his thread saying they were quoted about the same price for the same repairs, so it wasn't just some dude. It's no different than going in to a shop with a 97-03 gp do get the intake gaskets replaced. Some people have posted on here $900+ quotes for that repair.

OK so what from what I understand is to not take it even though it is that it's a good car for now. But in the future when I have problems it will be costly. I can do some repairs myself and I've been doing research on this forum to see what usually goes wrong and since the alternator, timing, and water pump was already replaced and it has such a low mileage and price, I was really considering it since it looked almost too good to be true.

The mileage really sparked my interested because I'm trying to get something like that that's well under 100K
