2000 GTP: Still Alive! New Trans?

Re: 2000 GTP: I Can Jump Myself!

Meh with torque you don't need gears, you just waste time shifting just look at an electric vehicle. When I had my SC and changed to a 3.27 rear pumpkin I really didn't use 1st gear since it was 3.75:1. I ended up using 2nd and 3rd pretty much most of the time.

edit: and 4th and 5th, but at the track 2nd and 3rd only.

Trial and error, trial and error. That and getting the **** shocked out of you a bunch of times. That's incentive in itself, lol.

Re: 2000 GTP: I Can Jump Myself!

Lol im pretty decent with the mechanics of it as for wiring thats another story but youve got a very nice car

Re: 2000 GTP: I Can Jump Myself!

Welp. Fun time of year again. I've been working a lot so not much has happened with the car except planning. Taxes came in, and other stuff has happened so it's time to sh*t or get off the pot. That said, tomorrow I'm driving to Joplin to pick up a set of L32 heads fore free from a buddy of mine, I just ordered Delco LIM gaskets (89017816) for $30 shipped, 2 Felpro 9089PT head gaskets for $25 shipped, and a buddy is sending me some Felpro exhaust gaskets for the price of shipping. Ported head will be in the very near future. I've decided to goto ARP head bolts instead of studs, simply because I don't plan on pulling these back off ever.

Also once the TB is done being ported I'll be going to a LQ4 MAF, along with a 4 inch FWI. I'm going to an LQ4 MAF because I'm getting tot he point where I'll be out flowing my stock MAF. Stock MAF max's out at 11,500hz and as the car sits now I'll hit 10,5XXhz. Between the heads, TB, smaller pulley (size to be determined later), and eventually an IC (allowing an even smaller pulley) I'm sure I'll cross that 11,500hz limit at some point.

Transmission is also on the chopping block now. I need to track down a 300m or 4340 IS for a descent price. I'd really like to avoid spending $420 on one lol. Same thing with a gear set. I think I've made my mind up that I want to stay with 2.93s, so I need try and track down a 7\8" gear set for 2.93s. Or possibly have a set made, and weigh the cost benefit vs PITA of having a set made.

In other news, the swing set will be getting a 10 foot tall tube slide, too. It'll be a 7 foot platform with a bridge. Yea.

Re: 2000 GTP: I Can Jump Myself!

Be at the dragstrip when the kiddos are busy with the slide! Having a gear made sounds pricey. Sounds like all hardcore plans too, wow! Whats the goal?

Re: 2000 GTP: I Can Jump Myself!

Slide is ordered, $480 shipped. The plan with that is to build a 7 foot tall deck with a bridge leading from the tower I built last year to the new tower. Then I'll get one of those blow up rectangular pools, put the slide into the water, get a harbor freight fountain pump in the water, and have the water sprayed into the slide as the kids enter. I say kids when the slide can support 250 pounds...I'll be going down it.

Re: 2000 GTP: I Can Jump Myself!

Goal is to reliably be in the 12s. I know this stuff won't get me there, but they are steps in the right direction. I wouldn't really be having gears made. I'd be having the 4t60E gears modified, which is how the 7\8" gear set came to be in the first place.

Re: 2000 GTP...and so it begins...(LOTS of PICS)

Finished up the dash today, I added a 42mm LED to the ash tray to light up the center console, and it came out great! I think. Hard to tell during the day, but it's better than no light. All I have left to do now is get a charcoal arm rest, get a heated seat switch\bezel in better shape, and clean up the shifter\boot a bit. Here's some pics:

It's lighted, but you can't tell in the pic:

sorry for the delay im just reading through the thread is this a +01 only counsel cause my 97 counsel looks exactly the same.......

Re: 2000 GTP...and so it begins...(LOTS of PICS)

Yes I did. Luckily the gasket stayed in one piece so I didn't need another one. If I had one I would have replaced it, but I didn't I still replaced the channel plate gaskets even though the old ones were fine. I have the old subframe out, that thing is HEAVY compared to the aluminum one but it still has the LCAs and sway bar on it though. For now I took a break to hang out with my pops and we're building an 02 simulator for the rear 02...So if all goes well...I can put my SES light bulb back in and it'll stay off! That's a milestone for this car, lol. Pics of the subframe:

sorry for the delay again...... did the Aluminum subframe come on GPs I see it a lot on impalas would that work???

Make a booby bird cutout sign "you must be this tall to ride" and charge chore admission. Ha. Your young'uns are lucky ones! And seriously, you would have a blast at some midnight drags with that thing running ANY kinda 12s. Round up all your wagers before your first pass, lol.

Can I come over and go on the slide? Pretty please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The cup holders are slightly deeper on the 01+, there's a step that goes down about a 1\2 inch. It helps, slightly. I still hope the guy that designed these cup holders got a sever talking to.

04+ GP got the aluminum subframe from the factory, 05+ GP (and some late 04) got the aluminum oil pan.

Impalas (and Montes) got the aluminum subframe in 00, if I remember right. You want 01+ because they have more and better welds, the older style is prone to cracking.

Re: 2000 GTP: I Can Jump Myself!

Sure, come on over lol. It's funny, there's only one stipulation to this swing set stuff. We (my wife and I) can play too. In the taller tower I've had over 1,000 pounds and it was still nice and solid. I've added bracing and put anchors into the ground (1.5 foot long 2x4s hammered into the ground) since then so it's solid.

The tentative plan is to turn the entire swing set clockwise about 30*-45* and move it toward the back of the yard a few feet. The I'll cut the back of the taller tower I built, and put a bridge up to the new 3x3 platform, 7 feet high. The bridge and new platform will have colorful railing like the 2 current towers do. Things that need to be finalized are which side of the platform the slide will be on, and how long the bridge will be. I'm thinking the bridge will go off the right side of the platform, putting the exit of the slide behind the swings. Obviously this could be a problem with getting kicked in the head by someone on the swing, so that's why the bridge length is going to be pretty important in that decision too. The longer the bridge, the farther from the swings the slide will be.

I'd like to just flip the set 180* and have the new slide\pool in front of the house, but the wife says she has to see the ladder at all times. Blah blah blah. Yes dear
