What are you Running on a GTP Couoe?

Just picked up a 2002 GTP coupe. What's the best tire for these cars in the stock 225/60-16 size?

All season, good wet weather traction, this is going to be a daily driver. Has the 3.4 SC pulley and associated mods so good traction too LOL. Used to run Michelin Pilot Sports on the SHO but I guess they don't make those anymore.....I put the Michelin Primacy on the wife's Hemi magnum, but they are more of a touring tire, not sure how they would work on this car.

Not saying you are limited with all seasons but you kinda get life and traction most of the time. Most will still hook alright but they are a softer tire in a way.

Uniroyal tire paws are decent, might be a little road noise with them. Those newer pirellicinturato p7 seem to be getting more popular. BFG touring TA's are okay too.

There are a few more selections for the name brands but some of those are really for just touring tire and for mileage. Figure most are going to rated at 50-65k miles.

Michelin still makes the Pilot Sport, but now they are called the Pilot Sport A/S 3. Seem to do well on my Vic.

Run General Altimax RT43's on my GP, but it's just a GT so no boost.

i've been considering giving the good year assurance triple tred a go

I had big o tires euro tour in a v rating for a long time, and then switched to the goodyear assurance triple tread, and I really like the triple treads, a lot better than the euro tours.

To add to what Cam said they are highly overrated.

I ran some Bridgestone tires on my 01 GT, I wish I could remember what model they were but they were a good all season tire, even drove the car through a blizzard and didn't slide or spin or anything.

how were they in the snow marshal ? did you get 80thousand out of em ?

I haven't had them on very long, just put them on this spring. I have a set of snow tires to run in the winter, so I'll probably never find out how they do in the snow. I wanted to get a set of aggressive summer only tires, but even in the summer here the temp drops lower than summer only tires can handle.

You'll never get 80k out of those triple treads, not on a daily driver atleast. They will scrub off in the city and after half tread turn into hockey pucks like all tires that say they can last over 60-65K miles. Then they'll dry crack like no tomorrow.

Only way to see the mileage out of them is to drive the car non stop on the freeway all the time and do it within a short period of time before the weather gets to them.

i ran several sets of kelley charger GT's on my Z24 . i was pretty happy with them considering they were pretty inexpensive but they weren't the greatest in the snow.
i tried a set of good year eagles and didn't think they were any better. they just cost more

a guy I know has them, not sure what his driving habits are, claims they have 50K miles on them and they still look pretty good. he drives a buick regal gs. he lives in cheyenne and delivers pizza, so I'm sure he has a good mix of city and highway.

I have ran General Altimax HPs in 98H rating (stock size) and liked them VERY well in slick conditions. Otherwise, a normal tire if maybe slightly noisy. Four out of six I bought have been destroyed by crashes or hazards but they wore nicely and I've put many miles on the pair thats left. Tomorrow I am getting a set of four 98V rated ones. They should be even better, softer compound. I'm after wet grip. If miles is the quest, go with the H rated variant. FWIW I got pulled over for accelerating too fast on a wet street with those tires. Cop was kinda scratching his head like "How'd you do that?". If you put them on a GT, you can floor it from a dead stop and not spin.

which them are you referring to ? :th_scratchhead:
i've never got 50k out of a set of tires for the simple reason that once the tread gets so low they are useless in the snow i scrap em.

Just ordered a set of these Goodyear Eagle Sport V-rated. UTOQ is 560AA so they should wear decently. These were on sale at Tire Rack for $99.64 ea plus free road hazard and had good reviews.

The Hankook Optimo's on the car are J-U-N-K. First time driving the GTP in the rain and ABS kicked in every time I hit the brakes.
