California Emissions Question

Hello, my 2005 Grand Prix L26 is from California which means I have the secondary air injection system, California O2 sensors, and California catalytic converter. Here is my question. I no longer live in California, I live in Delaware now. My car started throwing a P0420 code and so I replaced the upstream and downstream O2 sensors with the appropriate factory ones. The P0420 code persists telling me that my catalytic converter is bad. If I throw a federal cat in, will the car know the difference? I don't want the car to set a code because I didn't use a California cat. But it really sucks that California cats are almost more than double the cost of federal cats.

Do they do emissions testing there?
If not, the easiest method is to just replace the cat with pipe and use spark plug non foulers for the rear O2.

Okay, well being as you are no longer in Cali, I do believe it would be safe to run a normal cat on the car.

You don't think it will set a code? I'm just worried that the federal cat won't meet the computer's threshold for cat efficiency.

if it came down to it, you could drive up here and i could delete that code for ya. it will still pass inspection. im in Northern NJ.

you could also ditch that dumb air pump and i could delete that code too.

I plan on dumping it within a year or so. I just had to replace both the pump and check valve because they rusted out. Even buying from Ebay/Amazon, I still paid over 160 bucks for the parts and had a hell of a time installing them. Im eventually going to be buying headers and when I do, I'll rip all that crap out and may have to pay you a visit.
