What did you do to your car today? Vol 2.0

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Decided to tint my tails on my Tahoe today. The one on the left is messed up. Someone cleared it at some point and the clear was pealing off and apparently I missed a few spots when sanding.

Well, it was a hell of a ride while it lasted... A historic run.

Seven GM cars... Three GP's, two Buicks, an Olds, and a Chevy... and I never had a bad wheel bearing. I've heard all the stories but managed to avoid problems... Until now :(

Oh, well, what's another $80...

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

I had like 8 people ask to trade me cars today, all in about 5 minutes. I laughed and said no thanks, lol. I'm really doing everything I can to get these windows tied into the alarm this weekend. Then I just need the rain sensor setup and I should be good for awhile.

Oh and I ordered a little pre-made circuit off of ebay yesterday. It's a 12v relay that allows you to delay the turn on by up to 10 seconds. It'll work great for the HID problem. No more headlights on, then off during cranking then back on once running. Not bad for all of $1.72...

We'll see if it works though.

Watch the amperage on those. I enquired on that style and they were in the 5-10 amp range. I ended up getting one from Waytek.....

Just have to install it.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

The other ones I have seen are rated at 5 amps. More than enough to trigger the HID relays. They've gotten mixed reviews, some get a bad 555 chip, but we'll see. If that's the problem I can always replace the chip.

Ah yes, using a relay to trigger a relay; that will work just fine. I'm replacing my fog relay with the WayTek......trying to keep my relays to a minimum LOL

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

I tried rigging up some capacitors to delay the turn on, but with 18,000uf I only got around 3 seconds, lol. The Relay harness for the HIDs is staying since it came with the retros and all that. SO far I have 3 relays to integrate the sunroof into the alarm, 4 relays for the alarm itself, one relay for the LEDs, and a relay to integrate the climate control into the alarm. Once I get the windows integrated into the alarm you can add another 9 relays to that list, lol.

I learned that my mom, who has a 98 regal gs, puts in 87 and has run it on 87 for years. I learned this as she called to tell me its running like crap lately.

I think i'm adopted.

Where the heck do you put that many? I don't think my Bronco had that many relays....... nope, only 7! LOL

Funny thing with that fuse block..... the other night I was tinkering with my new ignition switch, adding the relay for the "ignition saver mod", and I needed a relay and holder. I thought I had some holders, but didn't. Then I remembered the pile of parts from the Bronco. Dug out the old tupperware fuse box and removed what I needed. Gotta love recycling. LOL

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Wow, you made a fuse box? You guys seriously amaze me. I need to take some classes or something. I can read a dmm and follow pictured instructions, but get lost trying to figure out a schematic.

Question for the pros, I want to add something to my van that will delay off my interior lights when I forget to turn them off...drain my battery at least once a month. Would this work?

I noticed in my impala there is something in the pass fuse panel that reads "timed lights relay" or something like that. If I knew what caused my car to delay off I could grab that part from the yard and I'm thinking wire it in to the interior light switch.

Tupperware made mine. :th_biggrin2:

It was my solution to keeping electronics dry. It sort of worked.

That should work just fine. The only minor issue is that the dome circuit is a constant 12v, and you need to interrupt that constant voltage with the timer device. So, if that device were to ever fail, you could loose the dome lights.

GP's have the same function, just not sure if it is the relay doing the timing out/dimming; could be the BCM. Pull the relay, power it up, put a voltmeter on it and disconnect the power..... see what happens.
