RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" Less Slow Now

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

I used an OEM seal when I did mine but I probably jewed up the install lol.

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

Well 130 bucks for a new seal and bushing installed, still leaks. Warrantied axle, still leaks. No idea what to do anymore.

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

Told the trans guy it was still leaking he suggested I get a used stocker. I found one with 130k for 30 bucks, I might just buy it and give it a try. I'm at the end of my sanity trying to fix this.

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

At least i can replace an axle now in my sleep and in about an hour lol

Maybe i can make a deal eith the guys if it works I'll buy it if he lets me try it first.

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

Found another one 61k for 25 I might go pickup tomorrow.

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

Dang all that work and it still leaks? Makes me not want to do mine, its not leaking enough to drip, just keeps the housing wet.

You don't think the cover is cracked right?

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

Guy had the cover off and I looked at it with him when he replaced the bushing and he didn't see any cracks.

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

Um..they are all 3.29 buddy. The driven gears are what change the FDR.

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

Um..they are all 3.29 buddy. The driven gears are what change the FDR.
97-03 Grand Prix natural 3800s also use a 3.29 differential and 35/35 gears
04-08 Grand Prix natural 3800s use a 3.05 differential and 35/35 gears
05-09 Allure/LaCrosse 3800s use a 2.86 or 3.05 differential depending on year and 35/35 gears
00-05 Impala 3800s use a 3.05 differential except for some sport packages that use 3.29 and 35/35 gears
00-05 Monte Carlo 3800s use a 3.29 differential and 35/35 gears
00-05 Monte or Impala 3400s use a 2.86 differential and 35/35 gears
06-11 Impala or Monte Carlo 3500s use a 2.86 differential and 35/35 gears
06-11 Impala or Monte Carlo 3900s use a 3.29 differential and 35/35 gears
05+ Buick Allure/LaCrosse CXS with the Cadillac 3.6 Alloytec use a 3.29 differential and 33/37 gears for a final drive 3.69 ratio

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

Final drive-differential ratios

2.86:1 in standard differential only
3.05:1 in standard differential only
3.29:1 in standard differential and also the HD (Heavy Duty) and Volvo version differential

-Drive and Driven sprocket combinations and ratios

33 Drive / 37 Driven creates a 0.892:1 ratio
35 Drive / 35 Drive creates at 1.000:1 ratio
37 Drive / 33 Driven creates a 1.121:1 ratio

The Drive and Driven sprocket ratio will directly factor in to calculate the overall transmission ratio. For example most of the Supercharged 3800 powered vehicles come with a 3.29 HD differential but they have a 37/33 sprocket orientation and this will overdrive the transmission and create an overall ratio of 2.93:1

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

Yeah.. FYI, they aren't all 3.29's.. lol

Kyle.. did you find the threads where others have had seal issues and had to find a certain seal to fix the issue?

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

I think I did Bill, iirc it was some updated GM seal that sits on the shaft another 2mm more. The thing is when I did the seal myself thats what I used was the updated one.

Unless there is a different one.

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

I dunno, I wasn't there to double check.

Wait.. you were. Did you or didn't you?

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

Another thing to consider, do you think you gouged the metal when taking it out? I know mine was a bear to get out, and yours seems like its leaking between the seal and where it seats. Wait, you replaced the diff cover didn't you? There's only so many ways it could leak, and it seems you covered everything. If you do it again maybe rtv the crap out of it, take the cover off and press it in with a proper press. That would certainly eliminate anything, and if it still leaks I'd reckon your car is haunted.

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

I guess I should have clarified, all the HD diffs are 3.29, geez.
