Re: 1997 Black GTP, Double Din Complete W/ New Wheels Installed.

Dan you have to program the thingy with the remote from the stereo.

The directions said, When the program mode light is on, you have to press the button on the steering wheel you wish to program(Ex: Volume Up). Once it's programmed (Light will turn off), then you press the same button you just programmed on the steering wheel, on the remote (Volume Up).

You continue to do this with every button. Steering wheel - then remote.

I couldnt get it to program with steering wheel buttons first.

Oh. Well that sucks. :( Its already set up for a Pioneer radio. Idk if that has anything to do with it, I don't see why you couldn't reprogram it.

Im not sure what was going on. Possibly tapped into the wrong wire?

I believe the stock Steering Wheel Control Wire is Pin #14 and is dark blue. I tapped the green wire to that, then red to power and black to ground, obviously.

I know this is going to sound like a stupid question but did you follow these steps.
Step 18. Press and hold programming/mode button on SWI-X.
Left LED will light.
Step 19. Release programming/mode button.
Step 20. Within 7 seconds, press and hold the button that is to be learned on the steering wheel
Step 21. Release the button.

IIRC that is correct.

Yeah I did that about a thousand times. Lol

When the left LED is on, and your pressing the steering wheel button you want programmed, once it is programmed, the left LED will turn off, then the right LED will light up.

I couldn't get it to do that. Everytime I got the left LED on, showing its in programming mode, after I pressed the steering wheel button, it wouldn't do anything. After 7 seconds of inactivity, the adapter would exit programming mode. Which is what it would keep doing for me.

Well 1 of 2 things happened either the adapter went bad or your steering wheel control buttons do not work anymore.

You most likely will especially with sscs

SSC's don't have the biggest nor smallest drop. Roughly 1.7 - 1.8" inches. I'm assuming it will rub with the low offset of these rims. Might see if I can take some measurements to give myself a better idea.

I assume my steering wheel buttons may not work anymore.

I've always had an aftermarket in the car, so I never knew if the steering wheel buttons worked in the first place.

Do you want the PAC steering wheel adapter back? If not, I might just sell it.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Double Din Complete W/ New Wheels Installed.

If you want dan you can try my Steering Wheel Controls. I dont use them anymore.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Double Din Complete W/ New Wheels Installed.

And I've got a whole box full of extra steering wheel controls from my various junk yard adventures

Either work for me, my friends.

My steering wheel buttons lost awful anyways. Discolored and faded. Even if they will never work again, they need to be replaced just for looks. Lol

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Double Din Complete W/ New Wheels Installed.

I would see if the replacement steering wheel controls work before doing anything with the adapter.

You keep moving down the list of buttons in the exact order they list on the instruction sheet.

Yes you can buy another resistor, 6ohm should do it.

The instruction list didn't have a set order.

But I followed another instruction list from a video for the PAC SWI-RC and I followed that, figuring it would be the same.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Double Din Complete W/ New Wheels Installed.

The instructions don't list a specific order to program the buttons.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Double Din Complete W/ New Wheels Installed.

I tried doing it in a random order.

I also tried following a specific order listed from the PAC SWI-RC and another video I found on YouTube of a PAC employee installing one on an 04+ Grand Prix.

Nothing worked.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Double Din Complete W/ New Wheels Installed.

have you tried turning it off and then back on again? lol jk... the wheels look nice ;)

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Double Din Complete W/ New Wheels Installed.

I tried turning the ignition off and back on a thousand times like the directions stated, as well as clearing the history from the adapter.

And thanks man! I love the new wheels!

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Double Din Complete W/ New Wheels Installed.

This is for the SWI-RC, should be the same for the X. They didn't have a specific one for the X for the Grand prix. This also tells you what wire to tap into.

There is a list you go down on the page for what order you program the thing, you get it into program mod, press the button the steering wheel in that order...so Volume up, hold for 2 seconds after the led goes out, then release, then press volume down and hold for 2 seconds, LED out release. To skip press the program button.
