Have him look at the connector and pins for the trans. Jason just ran into something similar. The pump is pumping if you are getting engagement in R.

Have him check that the cable is tightened down, I've seen a loose one cause issues. Also..this came from a GP? I'm thinking that little lever on top that moves it gear to gear might be different. It is different for the different body cars. and.. check fluid level.

If he didn't do the shift kit.. did he drop the pan? If not...make him do it and look for a filter.

Yea it was out of an 01 gtp,he said he dropped the pan and everything looked good,my thing is the trans was in an 01 gtp but the tag read 0xbb and not 1xab.

My car only had 3rd with a bad trans connector. Threw codes like crazy as Bill will recall in his half-asleep stupor. Revving the hell out of with minimal movement is indicative of a bad trans unfortunately. You MAY get lucky and only have a bad PCS as that only is used for the forward gears. Check codes and let us know.
 
If you can't check codes you can always use a multimeter to check the PCS's resistance. That way you have a better idea before you rip it all apart again.
 
You can unplug the transmission and that will leave you with max line pressure, Reverse, 3rd take-off in D or 3 range OR 2nd take-off in 2 or 1 ranges. If it is not engaging then there is an internal problem or it is very low on fluid. As Bill suggest- MAKE SURE there is a filter in the trans! If missing it would cause slippage across the board but strong engagement in Reverse says the Forward band is not holding. "IF" a Shift Kit was installed- then it sure sounds like two of the metal tubes were accidentally swapped and when this happens you have Forward Band fluid pressure going to your geartrain, and rear lube fluid trying to partially apply the Forward band and it is likely smoked already if that is the case and it has been driven.
 
So here is a little update.....I went last night before going into work to get the trans oil pan gasket to return to the store and something told me to look in my box with my shift kit in it from TEP to see if atleast the new filter was put in along with the brand new torque converter and oil,and low and behold the new filter was still in the box which makes no sense at all,so I have new torque and fluid but old filter possibly.....won't no for sure if there is one or not until I can get more time to go check it myself.

On another note....I can slightly recall a conversation with the guy I bought the trans from about the pnp switch but I can't recall what exactly it was about, all I do remember is that I told him I would be putting mine on it anyways but obviously that did not happen.

This is probably a stupid question but ,3 gallons of trans fluid should be enough to rule out low fluid shouldn't it?

Not if there isn't a filter in there....this guy is certified and didn't do these simple things. In my eyes it's a requirement.

I kept looking around to figure out wtf was going on and come to find out the tech who installed his transmission forgot to tighten down the torque converter bolts so they flew out over time causing him lose all shifting except reverse. I'm not saying that this is your issue but just take a quick look at those bolts lol

I kept looking around to figure out wtf was going on and come to find out the tech who installed his transmission forgot to tighten down the torque converter bolts so they flew out over time causing him lose all shifting except reverse. I'm not saying that this is your issue but just take a quick look at those bolts lol

That would be the dumnbest thing he could do,but it would make me feel like a kid in a candy store if that amongst any other small thing such as the filter,pnp switch (not saying the switch would do that) etc,etc.
 
I don't see how this makes any sense. If you don't have TC bolts.. you have no connection between the power the engine creates and the transmission. aka.. Trans isn't moving.

I was going to say that it sounds exactly like what my Trans was doing when I swapped the tubes during a Shift Kit install, but Dave beat me to it!

That's what was pissing me off Bill. I was looking at everything that had to do with the forward gears not working and why everything looked ok but the car still was able to go into reverse. I popped the cap off the bellhousing and moved the TC by hand. At that point I was like thats ****ing it! Lol. IDK if the TC slide over to the flex plate or what but the damn car went into reverse. Probably one of the craziest and most mind ****ing things I've had to diagnose on a vehicle. Also the asshole was cheap and asked me to re-thread the TC bolt holes.
 
So here is more of an update..........finally got a chance to examine my car myself and did what Dave at triple edge told me to do,and low and behold the trans shifts into gear and moves with no stall,only thing I didn't feel was 3,2,1 gears.......I also still need to check the filter.
 


i got a cheap ass actron iirc on ebay and amazon for like 12 bucks. its what i got and directed a bunch of other to. it reads, and clears codes just fine, shows i/m readyness too.

the torque app will also read and clear codes.
