stumped and could use some good news more than bad

Had a temporary trans swap done on my 01 gtp with a trans from a 00 gtp, found the trans on c-list in steeger ill for 250......guy said the trans was fine and that he drove it and had no issues with it shifting or engaging, added a transgo shift kit and a new torque converter just to be precautious on codes and such until I can get my original one rebuilt by Andrew.trans is in now and it goes into reverse but here comes the kicker won't go into drive ,3,2, or 1 and when in drive as long as you are on flat surface and you rev the hejj out of it, it will do a slow roll almost as to say I wanna go but I'm gonna go at my own pace.

Any thoughts or info would be greatly appreciated, hopefully it is something minor (HOPEFULLY).

Re: stumped and could use some god news more than bad

sounds like a broken forward band.

you also flushed it, if you know it or not. pan drop and a new TC is all there is inside it really.

Re: stumped and could use some god news more than bad

you did fill the new TC with fluid right? and it did do the double click when you put it on as well right?

Re: stumped and could use some god news more than bad

That would be crazy if the forward band was gone this one as well cause I drilled the guy about it shifting and like I said he swore it ran perfectly fine for him with no issues, all fluids were swapped, torque was filled.

I didn't get to help with the install do to having my lil munchkin but when I asked my guy if it did he sent me the huh? Text back, now with the double click that means proper placement right?

Like I said scotty,he said it has no gears accept for reverse, and only movement is a slow crawl during excessive reving on a flat surface.

yeah, when you install a tc you push it on you will feel it click on, then you turn it and push, and it will click one more time and push on further. if it only got one click the trans pumps not spinning i bet.

I'm hoping for piece of mind that is all it is cause I really can't do another forward band problem...lol!...funny thing is you diagnosed my forward bad break in my original trans.

theres a few threads with pics of the band broken, you can see it with the pan off.

seems most of the time you'll find a metal tab in the pan. first clue it broke.

Re: stumped and could use some god news more than bad

If the pump isn't engaging the car wouldn't go in reverse eighter right ? After you diagnosed my band issue I ran across those and saw the pics.

So in manual 1 or 2 it does nothing at all? The forward apply band would only effect D and 3, 1 and 2 have another band that engages when you put it in manual 1 or 2. http://tripleedgeperformance.com/Wont-move-D-or-3-only.html

You have any way to pull codes? You'll want to try and drive it, let it mess up and then pull codes WITHOUT shutting the engine off. A lot of trans codes erase themselves after you shut it off. Fluid and everything is filled up as it should be, right (he's checking it with the engine running)?

He hasn't tried to pull any codes, all the fluids are filled to capacity ,and he is saying that the car is doing nothing accept for engaging in reverse....he is saying he thinks the trans is fried but I just talked to the guy I got the trans from and he is still standing by his word that the trans was running when he pulled it.I am all to familiar with the forward band issue due to my original trans having that problem, also I am familiar with the 2-1 coast band as well.

Before I go any further I should also let all know that my friend is a certified mechanic and he Used to work at seelye until he finished his pole barn/shop completely, now he is doing his own buisness out of his shop.

The tag on the temp trans read Oxbb which if I am not mistaken is for a 2000 gtp,if the trans was from a different model such as a GT it would still engage but would shift like shyt correct? Just trying to come up with a positive reason rather than a bad trans solution.

Have him look at the connector and pins for the trans. Jason just ran into something similar. The pump is pumping if you are getting engagement in R.

Have him check that the cable is tightened down, I've seen a loose one cause issues. Also..this came from a GP? I'm thinking that little lever on top that moves it gear to gear might be different. It is different for the different body cars. and.. check fluid level.

If he didn't do the shift kit.. did he drop the pan? If not...make him do it and look for a filter.
