I have a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP with 225,000 miles on it. I purchased her about a year and half ago for fairly cheap and as a project car. She has a quite a few problems (Lol...This sounds kind of familiar in my life. I have had a quite a few of them in the recent years...anyways). I'm going to start working on her now, since I have the time. I'm going to do some modding but before I do that I want to fix the problems. The problems at the moment are rack and pinion and LIM gasket.

The body and interior are in bad shape. I am not going to worry about that, right now, because that isn't a big problem. The mechanical stuff is more important as you all know.

My goal is 4 months to get her running in top notch. For a lot of you that's a lot of time and most of you can get this done in weeks...lol! My goal is 4 months because I work a lot of hours at my job. I'm going to be working on her on the weekends, since my weekends are free now. Also, I can spread the money out more...:cool:

Dang son looks like u have allot of work to do for the interior i would recomend junkyard and maybe here on the for sale forum if the price is right but good look on it and keep showing progress
 
Lol...Dang son is right! Yea, The interior is bad. The only thing inside that is half way decent is the ceiling. I will definitely keep this thread updated.
 
After, I did a alternator replacement and the battery was charged real good I let it sit for a couple of days. Now the battery is dead. So, what I'm doing now is charging the battery, when it gets fully charged I'm going to let it sit overnight disconnected. Then reconnect it and try to start it to see if the battery is good or bad.
 


why dnt u just take it to ur local parts store and have them check the battery i noe at my job wr have this lil machine that checks battery and it will say if it has a bad cell or not

Yea...I could do that Vet but I just found it easier to do it this way. I'm going to be checking it here shortly.

It looks like the battery is shot! I let it sit in the car to long hooked up and dead. Actually, I'm glad it's the battery and not some other electrical problem.

yea well if u can muster up the money one day (like all of us) i say f it and go with a red top optima once u get your little electrical issue figured out
 
I was looking into those a couple months back...I definitely will get one of those, when the cash is right....Lol....never!
 
That is a complete money pit! Its not a 69 Camaro... Its a 97 GTP! Go pick up an immaculate one for 2K and save yourself the headache.

Unless it has some sort of special ties to you or a family member of course, that would be different.

Not trying to offend. Just looking out for the wallet!
 


Lol...that was intense, but very true. I don't think it is as bad as it looks though.
