TVS swap?

Hi guys, ive heard that on the l67 you can swap the supercharger for a TVS system, which runs more efficiently.
Does anyone know if this is still an option on our cars? If its not reasonable to get or the parts are not made any more, ill just go turbo. I really like the way a supercharger reacts, (no spool time etc). If it is available, where do i get it, and what sort of power gains is it usually worth?

thanks

turbo kits go forsale on here for 1500 -2000 all day every day from multiple sellers.

Good luck doing a tvs swap that needs custom parts for less than that.

a non ic z7 kit will make 300 easily with zero engine mods. now add ic, rockers/cam, e85 and all of a sudden 400 will seem pretty easy too.

if your only shooting for 300 a cammed gen5 setup on e85 can make that with stock heads and no intercooler.........

Thats wheel horsepower right? my ultimate goal is to be able to drive my car every day ( i wont but i like to have it as backup) but still be able to run with a 5.0 mustang (the new one)

if i stay supercharger, im definitely going intercooled to go easier on the engine.

On a side question, do the rockers change a lot about how the engine acts (mpg, idle, how it starts, etc)

you'll need a turbo setup to run with a new 5.0.

rockers won't change anything about behavior except for a little more power up top. i'd cam it instead.

The engine thats in the car just hit 200k, so im planning to wait for it to pop after i change the power adder, then rework a junkyard l67 (ive done it twice) new bearings, recon rods and scope out the bore etc, ill probably also go for ARP bolts, and do the cam at that point, i want to do it in stages, so when i get used to it i have somewhere to go.

correct me if im wrong, but e85 requires larger injectors once you start uping boos right? i had read it takes more e85 per hp.

Yes you'd need bigger injectors for e85. Don't touch the bottom end of the 3800. People have made north of 700 WHP on a stock l67 bottom end and its been proven reliable. Just get a new JY block and boost the crap out of it :-)

The TVS setup cost me just under $2000 IIRC.
I have stated, in detail, countless times, how much it cost and what each cost was.

At the time, people were still paying ~$1000 for GenV swaps.

I made 350whp on 93 octane and 374whp on e85, with a small cam and stock heads.
The TVS blower is better than doing an intercooler, genV, AND heads on an m90.

But in the natural course of things, I went turbo because I wanted the fastest fwd Regal on earth.
Going turbo was not easy or cheap. People will tell you it is, but those people haven't done it.

If you want to stay with a supercharger and are happy under 400whp for the most part then TVS is the way to go.
Either way it's a lot of work and problem solving, good luck!

What sort of cars where you running with when you had that setup?

you didnt happen to make a video called sleapers did you?

my car makes 330whp 400wtq with zero "exotic/special" parts.
e85 s1x cam 105# springs 60# Injectors gen5 2.8 pulley headers stock heads.
in the kill section there is a crappy vid of my putting about 2 buses on a 2006ish srt8 charger.

as for flakes prices good luck finding a tvs and making the sc adapter for under 2k.........

imo a tvs is a joke when you can make over 300whp 400wtq and spin a gen5 into obvlion with a 2.8 pulley..........

oh umm when was the last time you seen a tvs forsale? gen5s and parts to duplicate my setup for example are readily available and cheap!!

as for the 5.0 coyote. I havnt got to run one yet but heres and idea.
smoked a e92 2008ish 4 door m3, 370z's, srt8 charger, 3.5 altima se-r wasnt even close. 5.7 gto put up a better fight than the srt8 charger ut still lost.

again you could duplicate this setup and put the money thats left in the transmission where it will most certianly be needed!!!

if you can run e85 that changes the game here big time!!

edit pump gas vs e85 I picked up about 60 whp have dyno pics to prove it.

tvs better than heads intercooler gen5? umm is that why you never broke 400whp and now went turbo instead?
you went tvs to be different. the cost still doesnt back it up.

This is really the only race I had with the TVS setup being used well.
It was a 2.8 pulley and the cutout was closed. I'm sure that it would have gotten up near 400whp if I ever put the 2.5" pulley on it.
The unfortunate Mustang in this video is a Vortech S trim supercharged 4.6 v8. He made 330whp.

How much higher does a TVS sit than a gen v? The inlet any longer than a gen V? The car that I'd be tempted to put one in has a certain height and firewall restriction....
